It has been some time since our last update, and we're pleased to reconnect with the highlights of our recent initiative.
The "Kambateh Papiah Kristang 2026" – Speak Kristang Competition has successfully concluded, marking not only our first major initiative of 2026, but also the revival of a competition that had not been held since 2011, when it was last organized by 'Korsang di Melaka'.
The success of this event would not have been possible without the support of many.
Our sincere appreciation goes first and foremost to our Guest of Honor YB Kerk Chee Yee 郭子毅, the participants & their parents and all who came to lend their encouragement to our younger generation.
Their presence and unwavering support serve as a powerful reminder that the Kristang language stays alive only through the collective efforts, dedication, and strength of our community.
Special congratulations to Grettel Annisa De Costa for proudly securing the 1st Prize, an achievement that showcases the passion and talent from our younger ones in keeping the Kristang spirit alive.
We would also like to acknowledge The Port Sett Ukes for their musical performance themed “The Lion King”, which added to the event atmosphere.
And finally, special thanks also go to The Lisbon Melaka for their generous CSR support in making this event possible.
At the heart of our humble initiative is a simple yet meaningful mission: to inspire the younger generation to embrace the Kristang language and to remind our community why this precious part of our heritage matters and why it deserves to be passed on to the next generation.
What we witnessed during this event reaffirms the importance of continuing this journey.
And this is only the beginning.
Inspired by our shared commitment, we hope to make 'Kambateh Papiah Kristang' an annual tradition as part of our ongoing mission to safeguard the beautiful endangered language of ours.
Every word spoken, every voice heard, and every act of support brings us one step closer to ensuring that the Kristang language continues to thrive for generations to come.
See you at the next Kambateh Papiah Kristang 2027!
Mutu Grande Merseh & Deus Bensuah 🙏
