πŸ“Œ 15 June 2026

The launch of STEM Catalysts 2026 marked a significant milestone, as we celebrated three years of empowering students across Sarawak through meaningful STEM learning experiences.

Held at SMK Padawan, the programme brought together 655 students for a day of immersive, hands-on STEM activities designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and innovation.

The event was graced by YB Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Sarawak, reaffirming the Sarawak Government's commitment to nurturing future-ready talent and strengthening STEM education throughout the state.

Organised by the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) in collaboration with Sarawak Science Centre, University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), Sarawak Skills, and Sarawak Research and Development Council (SRDC), STEM Catalysts continues to connect students with real-world STEM applications and future career opportunities.

Over the past three years, STEM Catalysts has reached thousands of students across Sarawak, proving that when young minds are empowered to explore, question, and create, they become the innovators who will shape our future.

✨ Celebrating three years of impact. Inspiring the next generation through STEM.

10 June 2026, LUNDU – Sarawak Science Centre (SSCiEX) joined the SMK Lundu STEM Carnival on Wednesday, 10 June 2026. The programme drew more than 1,500 people, including students, teachers, and local community members.

SSCiEX took part to spark interest in STEM and give students more exposure to technology and hands on learning.

YB Billy anak Sujang, State Assemblyman for N1 Opar, also attended.

Throughout the day, students tried practical activities that helped them understand STEM ideas better. SSCiEX looks forward to working with schools and partners again to keep this kind of learning going.

WHAT IS SARAWAK SCIENCE CENTRE (SSCiEX)?

SSCiEX (Sarawak Science Centre Interactive Experience) is Sarawak’s first interactive science centre. It is located at Jalan Stadium, Kuching, on a 10.97-acre site. Phase 1 will open on 29 July 2026, covering the Ground Floor and Level 1 galleries. Phase 2, covering Level 2 and Level 3, is planned for a later date.

The Sarawak Government built and runs SSCiEX under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030). It gives students, families, and the public a place to do science hands-on, in ways most schools in Sarawak cannot offer.

The galleries cover physics, engineering, earth science, biology, and technology. Key spaces include an animatronic dinosaur gallery, a water play zone, and hands-on exhibits on forces, light, and sound.

SSCiEX also runs daily science shows in the theatre, live floor demonstrations, school lab sessions, and outreach programmes to schools across Sarawak. Other facilities include a Maker's Space, specialised labs, community farming zones, and an on-site hostel for school groups.

THE STORY OF SARAWAK SCIENCE CENTRE

In 2019, the Sarawak Government approved the project. The reason was simple. Sarawak needed a science centre where schools, families, and communities could do science hands on.

Planning began in 2022. Singapore Science Centre developed the Strategic Master Plan. It set the exhibition themes, scope, and operating model. It also linked global science education standards to Sarawak’s physical and cultural context β€” the rainforest, the rivers, and the communities the centre was built to serve.

By 2024, construction was moving forward. The team finalised concept designs for key zones, including Exploring Our Planet and Exploring Around Us. Exhibit fabrication and installation followed in 2025.

SSCiEX opens to the public on 30 July 2026 β€” built so that students here can get the same standard of science experience found in larger cities.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2026 β€” Rethinking Systems & Climate Action

This year’s theme reminds us that protecting the planet starts with rethinking the systems we live in β€” from the way we consume, build, travel, and care for our environment.

Climate action is no longer a choice, but a shared responsibility. Every small action today shapes a greener, safer future for tomorrow.

Let us redesign the future and protect the planet together. 🌱
