CHINESE WATERCOLOR MASTERPIECES : A 35-YEAR RETROSPECTIVE
The Art House Gallery has been at the forefront of introducing Chinese watercolor works to Malaysian audience since 1991. 35 years on, we proudly present a landmark retrospective celebrating the remarkable artists who have shaped and enriched our local art scene through both solo and group exhibitions.
We have all the while maintained our curatorial focus by selecting: 1) artists that are affiliated with reputable art academies/ institutions, and 2) those whose works have been selected / won awards in major art shows/competitions in Mainland China.
A noteworthy mention is the inclusion of 4 artists from the top 30 watercolorists featured in the official < Chinese Watercolors Part 1 & 2 >published by Shanghai Art Press in year 2000, These esteemed artists----Bei Xumin, Liu Yi, Wang Yong and Ping Long---represent the pinnacle of contemporary Chinese watercolor. Equally notable are artists that have won major awards---Hu Shengqi & Chen Haining. Collectors and art enthusiasts will find 60 exceptional works on display, and they are for sale too.
What makes this show especially interesting is how different they are from their Malaysian counterparts, not just in subject matter, but also in technique, style, medium and concept. They offer quite a different aesthetic experience and creative challenge to both Malaysian artists and collectors.
And herein lies the pleasant surprise. Despite their stature, their prices are on par with their Malaysian contemporaries. The reason being, we have not adjusted their prices as compared to 20-35 years ago. While we acknowledge some of the artists have since passed away, others have become very famous, even achieved international recognition hence may fetch very high prices---yet we've chosen to pass on this goodwill and genuine opportunity to Malaysian buyers. Whether you're looking to invest or simply to beautify your walls, these pieces are of very high quality, and excellent value for money.
