Open Call: 2026 Artist Community & Research Residency 🌿

In collaboration with the Tisung Orang Asli Community, Penang Art District, and Hin Bus Depot, supported by PORT Ipoh, we’re excited to announce that applications are now open for our 2026 Art Interdisciplinary Residency—welcoming both local and international artists.

This year, our residency will be held in Perak and Penang! There will be traveling involved, exploring multiple locations, and connecting with the local art communities in different regions.

This year’s theme, "Roots and Resonance: Documenting Living Traditions of Native Artistry and Communities", is about exploring the native artistry and rediscovering art in nature. Dive deep into the daily lives of the native community and explore how their culture is reflected in their artistry.

We invite applications from artists, curators, and art researchers in the following disciplines to apply:
Photography, documentary, sound art, and mixed media installation art

📄 Submission requirements:

1. Artistic and research portfolio
2. Statement of interest (500–800 words)
3. Short biography

Thank you to everyone who turned up at our event today! Grateful to Snow, Ali, Karl, Fahri, Nicholas, and Marissa, who came all the way from KL to engage in a meaningful dialogue session about topics that matter to us as creatives in Malaysia.

We hope that all participants today did get to take home fruitful advice and expand your network with other creatives from this dialogue session.

Papillon Artelier is hosting ALIM (Art x Law Initiative Malaysia) and ReformARTsi at The French Hotel in Ipoh to connect arts advocacy groups in KL to local creatives and expand conversations about how to build a more supportive cultural ecosystem in Perak. Come hear from and speak to members of ReformARTsi and ALIM about your experiences in the arts, the hopes you have, the challenges you face, and through an afternoon of meaningful discussions, build your creative community here in Perak and interstate bridges with allies in KL.

Hi! As you may already know, our gallery space is now located in The French Hotel, Ipoh, and we are now available on-site for art viewing and consultation. Please email us to make an appointment.

Jose & Deli Cafe will continue to open its door from 11 am to 4 pm, serving light bites and desserts. From 11 am onwards, come by to chill at our Music Corner, or have a coffee while reading a book, and browse our art collections!

If you are looking to book our space for meeting luncheons or an art showcase, speak to our team for more information on bespoke event/art showcase management and in-house catering.

We are open every Wednesday to Sunday (close on Mondays and Tuesdays). See you soon! 😊
