In this astounding piece, Brent Lynch pays homage to the disappearing architecture of San Antonio, one of Baja California Sur’s most historic towns.

Through a lens of deep nostalgia, Lynch immortalizes the sun-weathered facade of a town home on the brink of collapse. Alongside neighboring El Triunfo, San Antonio stood as a vital silver and gold mining hub across the peninsula during the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, it is a quiet, tranquil community of only a few hundred residents.

In this series, Mariana delves into the concept of temporada baja: the low season when tourism tapers off and a temporary pause falls over the local economy. While this annual shift might sound daunting, locals respond with remarkable resilience: budgeting wisely, investing back into the local community, and embracing the time for introspection and personal projects.

Summer in Baja is also the season of rains, tropical storms, mangoes, and pitahayas. It’s a time of essential renewal for the desert. Her series, titled “Vacas flacas, vacas gordas” (Lean Cows, Fat Cows), plays on this cycle of scarcity and abundance in an environment where survival requires constant adaptation. Through a restrained color palette, Mariana visually mirrors the natural boundaries and limitations the local community navigates.
