PHILIA - Saerom Yoon - Art Busan

In Day, Suspended, Saerom Yoon develops a practice that moves away from construction toward suspension.

His works do not assert structure; they hold it in abeyance. Through the use of layered resin, he creates forms that appear both present and withdrawn, as if partially absorbed by their own materiality.

Color is not applied, but embedded. It is held within successive layers, diffused through thickness, and revealed only through duration. The surface becomes a site of depth, where what is seen is never entirely given.

What appears stable reveals itself, over time, as something more fluid and uncertain.

PHILIA - Saerom Yoon - Art Busan

Galerie Philia presents Day, Suspended, a solo project by Saerom Yoon, unfolding a body of work in which material becomes a vessel for memory, and perception is approached as a relational and temporal condition.

Rather than presenting isolated objects, the exhibition invites a different mode of attention. Each piece exists not only in itself, but in relation to space, light and the viewer’s movement. What emerges is a subtle and evolving experience, where presence is never fixed, and where perception unfolds over time.

The works resist immediacy. They ask to be approached slowly, allowing forms to appear, dissolve and reconfigure depending on one’s position and duration of encounter.

PHILIA & KIDS III — Petrópolis

Galerie Philia presents the third edition of Philia & Kids, its initiative inviting children to engage with design through collaborative workshops.

Curated by , this chapter unfolds in Petrópolis in collaboration with , the Alcobaça parish school and SOS Serra.

Over several months, children explored nature, material and form, creating drawings that were later transformed into sculptural furniture using reclaimed wood collected from fallen trees. Guided by Gisela Simas and local artisans led by Guga Casari, each piece brings their ideas into physical form.

Following its presentation at the Crystal Palace in Petrópolis, the project continues with a charity auction with in June, and an institutional exhibition at MAC Niterói in August, in partnership with .

All proceeds support the continuation of the program and the development of a long term design school in Petrópolis.

PHILIA & KIDS III — Petrópolis

GALERIE PHILIA is proud to present Philia & Kids III, the third edition of its philanthropic initiative dedicated to introducing children to the world of design through collaborative creative workshops.

Curated by , creative director of PHILIA, this new chapter takes place in Petrópolis, Brazil, in collaboration with Brazilian designer , the Alcobaça parish school, and the local organization SOS Serra.

Over several months, children from underserved communities participated in workshops exploring the relationship between nature, material, and form. Using reclaimed wood collected from fallen trees at the COMDEP green waste center, the students imagined and drew sculptural furniture pieces inspired by the surrounding landscape and natural forms observed during visits to Marambaia Farm.

Guided by Gisela Simas and supported by master artisans led by Guga Casari, the children’s drawings were transformed into functional sculptural works crafted from reclaimed wood that would otherwise have been discarded.

The exhibition will first be presented at the Crystal Palace in Petrópolis from May 12 to May 15, 2026. The works will then be featured in a charitable auction organized with IN jUNE, alongside pieces by acclaimed artists and sculptural designers.

Following the auction, the project will continue with an institutional presentation at the MAC Niterói in Rio de Janeiro in August 2026, in partnership with .

All proceeds from the auction will support the long-term development of Philia & Kids, including future workshops and the creation of a long-term design school in Petrópolis dedicated to children from underserved communities.

More than an exhibition, Philia & Kids III explores how design can become a tool for education, transmission, environmental awareness, and human connection across generations.

We warmly thank all the partners, artisans, institutions, designers, schools, and collaborators who made this project possible.

PHILIA & KIDS III — Petrópolis

A project about social design.

For its third edition, Philia & Kids unfolds in Petrópolis as a space where design becomes a tool for transmission, collaboration and shared creation. Curated by and organized in collaboration with , the project brings children, artisans and designers into a common process grounded in making.

Over several months, children imagined forms inspired by their environment. Their drawings became starting points, then objects, then presences. Each piece reflects not only an individual vision, but a collective process rooted in local knowledge and materials.

Social design here is not an abstract concept. It is a practice. Working with what is already there. Engaging communities. Creating value through collaboration. Giving form to ideas that emerge from lived experience.

What matters is the process as much as the result. Learning through making. Understanding material through the hand. Building something that remains, both physically and symbolically.

The exhibition opens at the Crystal Palace in Petrópolis from May 12 to May 15, 2026, followed by a charity auction with in June, and an institutional presentation at MAC Niterói in August in partnership with .

All proceeds support the long term development of the project and its future in Petrópolis.

PHILIA & KIDS

Before the opening of Philia & Kids III in Petrópolis on May 12, we look back at the first two chapters of a journey that continues to grow.

From its inaugural edition in Breil-sur-Roya, where children were invited to imagine furniture from pure instinct, to collaborative workshops in Palaiseau, where design became a shared act rooted in place, material, and community, Philia & Kids has always been guided by a simple conviction: that children are not merely participants in the creative process, but can be its true authors.

Now, a new chapter unfolds in Brazil.

Curated by , cofounder and artistic director of PHILIA, Philia & Kids III brings together Brazilian designer , master artisans, and children from underserved communities in Petrópolis in a project rooted in education, creativity, and environmental awareness. Working with reclaimed wood from fallen trees, the children were invited to observe, imagine, draw, and ultimately shape their own furniture sculptures, transforming local material into new forms of expression.

More than an initiative, Philia & Kids is a long term international commitment to transmission, imagination, and the belief that design can be a force for connection and possibility.
