Yucatan Railway Museum

Yucatan Railway Museum Yucatan Railway Museum or Museo de los Ferrocarriles de Yucatan is a donation based open air collection of Mexican railway history.

It was abandoned for four and a half years and restored by Englishman Mr Ivan Godfrey QBE. With the second largest collection of railway equipment in Mexico, The Yucatan Railway Museum is home to a range of locomotives, carriages and wagons from across the ages of Mexican and Yucateca rail history, starting with the early steam days and our prize engine the steam powered/oil burning Baldwin 4-6-0

steam locomotive UdeY 270. The museum also features an 1890's Pullman wooden bodied carriage, a classic late 1930's designed diesel electric loco, the EMD F7a, and a variety of north American built locomotives, caboose and cars, a total of over 40 different exhibits for you to jump abord and experience. A true work in progress, with the restoration of a number of engines and carriages under way and improvements to the already well equipped site, set in one of the largest open green sites in Merida city centre, it's perfect for a morning visit to wander and relax surrounded by a real piece of Yucatecan history from the regions second great age. We offer free parking, library, museum, open access to exhibits and washroom facilites. In addition the mueseum has rentable exhibition space in the unique environment of one of our own railway carriages, private use of the site as a photographic or filming location and we are also available for event hire upon request.
