πŸ“Έ β€œThere is no face without a story. A face is a story always unfolding, mostly untold. A face is never whole. Yet nothing can be as present as a face, especially when that face is our own.” β€” Clive Zammit

Reflecting on the work of Joseph P. Smith, Zammit turns to the tension between presence and unknowability in portraiture, where a face is never fixed, but always in motion between what is seen and what is withheld.

πŸ‘‹ Meet the Creative - Shannon Briffa

Shannon is a self-taught sewing enthusiast and workshop facilitator who finds meaning in the meeting of needle and thread. She began sharing her sewing experiments and original designs online in 2016, with a focus on styling and upcycling, before joining Fashion Revolution Malta's core team in 2018, where she helped organise repair stands and facilitated her first upcycling workshop.
Since then, she has independently organised a wide range of sewing lessons and workshops, from corporate team-building activities to after-school clubs for children.

She believes everyone should know basic sewing techniques in order to repair, care for, and make more considered choices about their clothes - and she brings that conviction to life through hands-on, in-person teaching.

πŸ“Έ β€œSmith notices what others pass by. His photographs do not rely on drama or event; nothing spectacular happens.” β€” Therese Debono

Reflecting on the work of Joseph P. Smith, Debono draws attention to the quiet persistence of the everyday; fleeting scenes, overlooked details, and moments we encounter without truly registering. These aren’t images built around spectacle or climax; they invite a slower, more attentive way of seeing.

Using found fabrics, Shannon Briffa will lead a hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop where you'll learn the basics of sewing by making your own tote bag from scratch - measuring, marking, cutting, pinning, and stitching on a sewing machine. You'll leave with a finished tote bag to take home.

🧡 All tools and materials will be provided, though participants are welcome to bring their own fabric to upcycle into a tote - think old curtains, a tablecloth, or anything with a bit of body (but not too thick!).
