St John's Co-Cathedral

St John's Co-Cathedral This is the official page of St John’s Co-Cathedral, a gem of Baroque art & architecture built as the conventual church for the Knights of St John

Commissioned in 1572 by Grand Master Jean de la Cassière as the conventual church of the Order of the Knights Hospitaller of St John and designed by the celebrated Maltese military architect Gerolamo Cassar, St John’s Co-Cathedral stands as a unique monument of international importance. The church is dedicated to St John the Baptist, the patron saint of the Order. Today, St John’s is also a venue

for cultural events and is one of the most popular cultural attractions visited by tourists in Malta. It is administered by the St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation, which was set up in 2001 to ensure the church's and museum’s conservation. Closures

🇲🇹 🇪🇺 €5 miljun minn Fondi Ewropej għall-mużew il-ġdid tal-Konkatidral ta’ San Ġwann

Il-Fondazzjoni tal-Konkatidral ta’ San Ġwann tilqa’ b’sodisfazzjon investiment ta’ €5 miljun minn Fondi Ewropej, li se jkompli jsaħħaħ il-proġett tal-mużew il-ġdid u jtejjeb il-mod kif il-wirt uniku tagħna jiġi ppreżentat, ippreservat u esperjenzat mill-viżitaturi.

Dan il-proġett se jippermetti l-konservazzjoni fit-tul ta’ kollezzjonijiet ta’ importanza artistika u storika fuq livell internazzjonali, filwaqt li joħloq spazji ġodda, titjib fl-aċċessibbiltà u l-introduzzjoni ta’ teknoloġiji moderni biex joffru esperjenza aktar edukattiva u sinifikanti.

Dan huwa pass importanti li jħares lejn il-futur, filwaqt li jkompli jirrispetta u jipproteġi l-wirt tagħna.

🇬🇧 🇪🇺 €5 million in European Funds for the new museum at St John’s Co-Cathedral

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our seminar yesterday!

Yesterday’s engaging conversations explored the power of storytelling across different sectors, professions, and unique individual perspectives.

Through thought-provoking discussions, we reflected on how the objects we preserve matter - but so do the narratives, emotions, and experiences we attach to them and continue to share within our communities, both inside cultural institutions and beyond 🤍

🇲🇹 Xi darba, ir-relikwarju ta’ Ciro Ferri kien iċ-ċentru tal-Oratorju - sa anke kien jgħatti l-kapolavur ta’ Caravaggio warajh!

Bħalissa, opportunità rari tistieden il-viżitaturi biex jerġgħu jarawh fil-kuntest oriġinali tiegħu. Se tkun qed iżżurna biex tesperjenzah? ✨

🇬🇧 Once, the Ciro Ferri reliquary stood at the very heart of the Oratory - even obscuring Caravaggio's masterpiece behind it!

Now, a rare opportunity invites visitors to encounter it once again in context. Will you come experience it? ✨
