"Ilni naħdem iċ-ċeramika għal dawn l-aħħar 40 sena u ma nbiddlu ma’ xejn! Id-dinja kienet magħmula għalina ċ-ċeramisti - it-tafal, l-ilma, l-arja, in-nar, l-art. Dawn għandu bżonn iċ-ċeramista. Iċ-ċeramika ma tispiċċa qatt. Kif nafu min ġie qabilna? Għax mit-tiftix li jsir, jinstabu biċċiet tal-fuħħar li baqgħu jeżistu sal-lum. U dak li qed noħolqu u nikkreaw bħalissa, jibqa' u jsibuh dawk li ġejjin warajna. Iċ-ċeramika mhux bħall-kejk, kiltu u spiċċa.

Jiena persuna versatili ħafna fix-xogħol tiegħi. Skont il-burdata ta' filgħodu, niġi hawn u nikkrea. Bdejt meta kont ngħix New York. Missieri u ommi Għawdxin. Fit-tmeninijiet mort ngħix l-Amerika. Imbagħad kelli t-tfal żgħar, u ma kontx naħdem. Bdejt immur nitgħallem iċ-ċeramika, fil-klassijiet ta' filgħaxija, u minn hemm ma ħaristx lura. Ippruvajt diversi mediums, imma meta missejt mat-tafal, sirt inħobbu. Mhux biss naħdmu imma ngħallmu. Ngħallem ukoll persuni bi bżonnijiet speċjali, li għalihom, huwa terapija.

Jaf nara xi ħaġa li tispirani, niġi hawn u nibda noħloq. Inħobb nesperimenta ħafna bil-glazes. Ma nħobbx nikteb kull glaze li noħloq u dak ikun ifisser li kull biċċa xogħol hija unika. Inħobb naħdem bir-rota imma naħseb li nippreferi ma nkunx simetrika. Inħobb l-astratt.

Indis tawni l-opportunità li nista' nesprimi x-xogħol tiegħi. Issa ilni hawn 36 sena. Bdejt b'post żgħir, imbagħad kabbart għal darba darbtejn. Illum għandi l-wisa' li anki post fejn ngħallem iċ-ċeramika għandi. It-tafal huwa terapija għalija, avolja hu xogħol. F'dak li noħloq, bqajt inżomm dik ix-xi ħaġa tradizzjonali marbuta ma' Malta u Għawdex." – Katrin Formosa

✠ ✠ ✠

"I have been working with ceramics for the past 40 years, and I wouldn't change a thing! The world was created for us ceramists - clay, water, air, fire and land. These are the elements which the ceramist requires. Ceramics are eternal. How do we know who was here before us? From the excavations made, clay remnants have survived to this day. And what we fabricate and create now will be found by those who come after us. Ceramics are not like a cake which is eaten and forgotten.
I am a very versatile person in my work. I come here and create according to my morning mood.

I started off when I was living in New York. My parents are Gozitans. I emigrated to America in the eighties and stopped working when my children were young. I started attending ceramics evening classes and never looked back. I tried a number of different mediums but fell in love with clay as soon as I came in contact with it. I not only work with it but also teach it. I also instruct people with special needs. This acts as a form of therapy for them.

I might come across something that inspires me and come here to create. I love experimenting with glazes. I do not like writing down every glaze I create, which means that every piece is unique. I love working with the wheel but am not fond of symmetry and prefer the abstract.

Indis has given me the opportunity to express my work. I have been here for 36 years and started off with a small place which I grew twice. I now even have enough space to teach. Clay is therapy to me even though it is also my work. I maintain some Maltese and Gozitan traditional references in my creations." - Katrin Formosa
