Meet internationally acclaimed New York sculptor Skye Ferrante.

Known for his distinctive wire sculptures, Ferrante brings his unique artistic vision to Malta for a special series of meet-the-artist sessions.

Join us on Tuesday 28, Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 July, from 10am to 2pm and 4pm to 6pm, and on Saturday 1 August, from 4 to 6pm, to meet the artist and experience his work up close.

A great chance to discover his practice, see the sculptures in person, and enjoy a closer encounter with the artist behind the work.

A nice throwback to a feature in Flair magazine (2014), edited and owned by Daphne Caruana Galizia, which highlighted several galleries at the time. I was one of the three mentioned, which I appreciated. There weren't many privately run galleries then, although Christine X was also doing important work.

Daphne always had a strong eye for style and was a generous supporter of the arts in Malta. She regularly attended my exhibitions, as did many others — artists, collectors, writers, creatives, and people from all walks of life, including those who would later go on to public life and politics, whatever their background or beliefs.

Art always seemed to win, bringing people together in one room around a shared passion, despite many different opinions.

Fifteen years ago, I was interviewed for a magazine that no longer exists — much like the physical gallery I was creating in Sliema at the time. Things change, evolve, and make way for something new...

Back then, contemporary art in Malta was still finding its place, and it felt important to be part of that moment — helping to promote the arts and create space for artists and ideas to grow. That mission has never changed. My passion for promoting Maltese art continues, and although I no longer have that physical gallery in Sliema, I now have another space in Floriana, as well as Artpaper, my magazine promoting Malta internationally this year.

This interview appeared in Pjazza magazine in 2011, created and edited by the sharp and vivacious Isabel Warrington, which helped champion the arts at an important time for contemporary art in Malta.

As I said then, “I can never think just locally, and will continue bringing international art to the Maltese and I aim to promote Maltese art abroad too...” That still feels true today.
