The one who touched the sun: Icarus (2026)
36" x 36", Acrylic on canvas
• Artist Saungmin Lwin •
This painting draws inspiration from the myth of Icarus, a figure who dared to rise beyond human limits, only to be undone by his own ascent. It explores the fragile boundary between ambition and arrogance, where the desire to rise transforms into a refusal to listen, to stop, to survive diaplaying the danger of pride and ego.
Like Icarus, many choose the fire over the fall, the glory over survival. This work is not just about myth, but about human nature: the quiet, dangerous pull of pride, and the way it can lead not only to physical destruction, but to the death of the soul and the self.
It can be also seen from the other side as a fulfilled soul living as he wanted and dying as he wanted and living in our minds not only as a victim of pride but also a human soul which turned into a god.
