A 12th-century sculpture of the Jain goddess Ambika, crafted from grey chlorite.

The statue represents Ambika, the yakshi (attendant deity) or sasana devi (protector goddess) of the 22nd Tirthankara, Neminatha.

She is shown holding a child, symbolizing her role as a guardian of mothers and infants, and is seated on a lotus throne supported by a lion, her vehicle or vahana.

While similar figures originate from various regions in India, this specific sculpture is attributed to Odisha, India.

Timeless beauty carved in stone 🤍
This stunning marble sculpture captures strength, emotion, and movement in every detail. From the flowing drapery to the intense expression, it feels almost alive — like history frozen in a single moment.

Art like this reminds us how powerful sculpture can be. No words, just pure expression.

Hercules and Achelous

In Greek myth, Achelous could change shape. During his fight with Hercules, he turned into a bull.

Hercules overpowered him and broke off one of his horns.

That horn became the cornucopia (horn of plenty) — a symbol of abundance. You can see it at the base of the sculpture, with flowing forms and fruit-like details.

The twisted pose, strong muscles, and deep carving are typical of Hellenistic-style compositions.

Most versions we see today are Roman marble copies of a lost Greek bronze original, often linked to the circle of Lysippos (4th century BCE).

The sculpture focuses on movement, tension, and physical power — classic Hercules themes.
