Suriyakantha Museum Heritage Home & Restaurant The vast “Dutch-style” mansion houses an exquisite collection of visual arts, folk art, manuscripts, books and documentation.

Set within an eighteenth-century walawwa—once home to a noble of the Kandyan court—Suriyakantha blends the elegance of Dutch colonial architecture with Sinhalese craftsmanship. The centre was founded and curated by a Frenchman, Dr. Jacques Soulié, who was former university professor and director of the Alliance française de Kandy with a love and deep understanding of Sri Lankan culture.

Open to artists, writers and creatives from all backgrounds, our new residency programme invites anyone engaged in a creative practice — literature, visual arts, research, photography, film, music or any other discipline — to stay for a minimum of one week in our three-hundred-year-old heritage residence, at a preferential rate.
During their stay, residents — who may be accompanied by one guest — have a private space of their own and access to the house's most emblematic areas: the sitting room, the libraries, the verandahs, the galleries, the inner courtyard and the garden. Here, the calm, the beauty of the setting and the memory of Suriyakantha offer particularly fertile ground for creation.
