The J. R. Jayewardene Centre organized the official book launching ceremony for publish English & Tamil translated books of "Ma Akamathiwa Siti J. R." by former Parliamentarian and Cabinet Minister Hon. Imithiaz Bakeer Markar, on 30th March 2026 at the Main Auditorium of Jayewardene Centre.

The original author, having worked closely with J. R. Jayewardene, draws from valuable personal experience. This book contains trustworthy, tuthful, and rare information about J. R. Jayewardene. The effort of the original author in bringing these facts to light is highly commendable.

The READ JAPAN PROJECT promotes understanding of Japan by donating Japan-related books in English to institutions and libraries. Since its inception in 2008, the project has donated books to over 1,400 institutions worldwide. It is currently administered by the Tokyo Foundation, with financial support from The Nippon Foundation. The aim of the project is not only to support the work of Japan specialists—such as researchers, opinion leaders, and intellectuals—but also to foster understanding among non-specialists. By doing so, it seeks to contribute to cross-cultural exchange from a long-term perspective.

This project provides books annually on an application basis. Applications should only be submitted by institutions recommended by a Japanese diplomatic establishment.

We received a recommendation from the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka. Based on this, we selected and requested a set of books from the project on 23rd of March, 2026 through H. E. the Ambassador of Japan ISOMATA Akio and Other Officials. 🇯🇵🇱🇰

We are pleased to inform you that the J. R. Jayewardene Centre is organizing Preservation and Conservation Workshop No. 02

“Preservation and Conservation Challenges Faced by Librarians in Managing a Library and the Solutions to Address Them.”

This free workshop aims to enhance professional knowledge and practical understanding of preservation and conservation issues commonly faced in libraries, along with effective solutions and best practices.

We were deeply honored to participate in the Maha Sanghika Dana held at the Main Auditorium of the J. R. Jayewardene Centre on November 1st, 2025, in sacred memory of the late President J. R. Jayewardene, Lady Elina Jayewardene, and Mr. Ravi Jayewardene.​

May the merit of this offering bring eternal peace to their noble souls and blessings to all who joined in this sacred ceremony. We are grateful for the opportunity to honor their legacy through this act of generosity and devotion.
