《어리석음의 지혜》
인간애와 정의, 사랑을 믿으며 살아온 한 사람이 있습니다. 군부독재의 시대 속에서도 교사로서의 신의를 지켰고 삶과 예술의 경계에서 자신을 부단히 버려온 작가 김인규. 그의 작업은 파괴와 훼손, 실패와 미숙함 같은 인간의 어리석음을 외면하지 않았습니다. 이미지를 단지 이미지로 남겨두지 않기 위해 찢고, 긁어내고, 꿰매고, 지우고, 덮어버리는 반복 속에서 그는 상처를 단순한 파괴가 아닌 위로와 생명의 감각으로 전환해왔습니다. 이번 전시는 그가 30년 동안 지나온 시간 끝에 비로소 얻게 된 '어리석음의 지혜'에 관한 기록입니다.
많은 분들에게 김인규의 투쟁과 사유를 보여드리기 위해ㅡ아쉽게도 2009년 작업실 전소 그 이후ㅡ작업 주기의 면면으로 구성하였습니다. 많은 관심과 걸음 바랍니다.
김인규 선생님은 중학교에 미술교사로 재직하시면서 미술교과서를 집필하기도 했습니다. 현재는 서천에서 발달장애인들의 창작을 위한 ‘예술쉼터’를 운영하고 있습니다. 최근 개인전으로는 《회귀하는 몸》(서천문화예술창작공간, 2025), 《응엉앙》(이당미술관, 2024)이 있으며 저서로는 『우리는 왜 그림을 못 그리게 되었을까』(2025), 『진우의 거울』(2025) 박응주와의 공저 『충남 현실주의 미술』(2026) 등이 있고 『장소 특정적 미술』(2013), 『새로운 장르 공공미술: 지형 그리기』(2010) 역자이기도 합니다.

The Wisdom of Folly
There is a man who has lived with faith in humanity, justice, and love. Even during the years of military dictatorship, artist Kim Ingyu remained devoted to his principles as a teacher, while continuously relinquishing himself at the boundary between life and art. His work has never turned away from human folly — destruction and damage, failure and immaturity. Through repeated acts of tearing, scratching, stitching, erasing, and covering over, so that images would not remain mere images, he has transformed wounds from simple traces of destruction into sensations of consolation and vitality. This exhibition is a record of the “wisdom of folly” he ultimately arrived at after thirty years of lived time.
In order to share Kim Ingyu’s lifelong struggle and reflection with a wider audience, this exhibition has been composed from works spanning different periods of his practice — unfortunately, due to the loss of his studio and many artworks in a fire in 2009. We warmly invite your interest and visit.
Kim Ingyu worked as a middle school art teacher and also participated in the writing of art textbooks. He currently operates “Art Shelter” in Seocheon, a creative space for artists with developmental disabilities. His recent solo exhibitions include 《Returning Body》 (Seocheon Cultural Arts Creative Space, 2025) and 《Eung-Eong-Ang》 (Idang Museum, 2024). His publications include Why Did We Stop Being Able to Draw? (2025), Jinwoo’s Mirror (2025), and the co-authored volume Chungnam Realist Art (2026, with Park Eungju). He also translated Site-Specific Art (2013) and New Genre Public Art: Mapping the Terrain (2010).
