백남준아트센터 Nam June Paik Art Center 백남준이 오래 사는집, 백남준아트센터입니다. (공식 페이스북 계정)

2001년 작가 백남준과 경기도는 아트센터 건립을 논의하기 시작했으며, 백남준은 생전에 그의 이름을 딴 이 아트센터를 '백남준이 오래 사는 집'이라고 명명했다. 2008년 10월에 개관한 백남준아트센터는 작가가 바랐던 '백남준이 오래 사는 집'을 구현하기 위해 백남준의 사상과 예술활동에 대한 창조적이면서도 비판적인 연구를 발전시키는 한편, 이를 실천하는데 주력하고 있다.

📺✨ NJP 크리에이티브 〈음의 유희, 즉흥의 한 때〉

작곡가 한정원과 함께한 이번 프로그램은 학생들이 직접 그린 그림을 바탕으로 그 안의 분위기와 감정, 그리고 들리지 않는 소리까지 상상해보는 시간이었습니다.

참여작들은 퍼포머, 관객, 음악가가 되어 서로의 상상을 나누고, 음의 이름이 담긴 공을 하나씩 꺼내 대형 캔버스 위에 즉흥적으로 악보를 그리며 하나의 음악을 만들어갑니다. 마지막에는 함께 드로잉을 더해 모두의 상상이 담긴 하나의 악보 드로잉을 완성했습니다.

본 프로그램은 경기도용인교육지원청, 백남준아트센터, 용인문화재단이 협력하여 운영한 예술공유학교 Art on Lab의 일환으로 진행되었습니다.

Led by composer Han Jeongwon, this program invited students to imagine the emotions, atmosphere, and sounds within their own drawings.
As performers, audience members, and musicians, they created improvised musical scores on a large canvas and completed a collaborative score drawing together.
Presented as part of Art on Lab, a collaboration between the Yongin Office of Education, Nam June Paik Art Center, and the Yongin Cultural Foundation.

제1회 백남준미디어아트페스티벌 《달들》의 시작을 알리며 〈삭, 망 02- deathofDavid〉가 백남준아트센터 제2전시실에서 펼쳐졌습니다.

김바울과 Kyna는 달의 순환을 의미하는 '삭(朔)'과 '망(望)'을 출발점으로 삼아, 빛과 그림자, 노이즈 사운드, 영상이 교차하는 감각적 풍경을 선보였습니다. 서구 미학의 상징인 다비드상을 해체하는 이미지와 거칠고 밀도 높은 사운드는 익숙한 감각을 흔들며, 생성과 소멸을 반복하는 달의 시간을 현재의 몸으로 마주하도록 이끌었습니다. 단 한 번의 공연으로만 존재했던 이 작업은 《달들》이 품고 있는 변화와 순환, 그리고 관계의 세계를 가장 응축된 형태로 드러내며 전시의 문을 열었습니다.

Marking the opening of the 1st Nam June Paik Media Art Festival exhibition Moons, Sak, Mang 02 – deathofDavid unfolded in Gallery 2 of the Nam June Paik Art Center.

Taking sak (朔, the new moon) and mang (望, the full moon) as points of departure, Kim Baul and Kyna presented a sensory landscape where light and shadow, noise, sound, and moving images intersected. Images that deconstructed Michelangelo's David—a symbol of the Western aesthetic tradition—together with raw, densely layered sound unsettled familiar modes of perception, inviting audiences to encounter, through their own bodies in the present, the cyclical time of the moon marked by continual creation and dissolution. Existing only as a single live performance, the work opened Moons by distilling the exhibition's central themes of transformation, cyclical movement, and interconnected relationships into their most concentrated form.

〈백남준생일굿〉은 백남준의 생일을 기리는 의례를 오늘의 시간 속에 다시 펼쳐냈습니다.

방지원과 굿패들은 동해안 권역의 굿 전통을 바탕으로, 의례와 퍼포먼스를 넘나드는 작업을 선보였습니다. 이어진 8시간의 여정은 예술과 의례가 만나는 또 하나의 시간을 만들어냈습니다.

〈백남준생일굿〉은 마른오구의 형식을 바탕으로 백남준의 생일을 축하하는 동시에 그의 부재를 마주하는 의례였습니다. 1990년 백남준의 굿-퍼포먼스 〈늑대 걸음으로: 서울에서 부다페스트까지〉에 참여했던 김영숙 전승교육사와 함께한 이번 작업은 36년의 시간을 가로질러 과거와 현재를 잇고, 요셉 보이스를 위한 추모굿과 백남준의 생일굿을 하나의 시간 위에 포개어 놓았습니다.

𝙉𝙖𝙢 𝙅𝙪𝙣𝙚 𝙋𝙖𝙞𝙠 𝘽𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙝𝙙𝙖𝙮 𝙂𝙪𝙩 unfolded as a ritual that brought Nam June Paik's birthday into the present.

Rooted in the tradition of Donghaean ritual, Bang Ji Won & Gut Ensemble created an eight-hour ritual performance in which music, movement, and collective intention intertwined. The performance became a space where ritual and contemporary artistic practice converged.

Drawing on the form of Mareun Ogu, the work celebrated Nam June Paik's birthday while also confronting his absence. Joined by Kim Young-sook, who participated in Paik's 1990 ritual performance 𝘼 𝙋𝙖𝙨 𝙙𝙚 𝙇𝙤𝙪𝙥: 𝘿𝙚 𝙎é𝙤𝙪𝙡 à 𝘽𝙪𝙙𝙖𝙥𝙚𝙨𝙩 in memory of Joseph Beuys, the performance bridged thirty-six years, bringing past and present together in a single ritual.

제1회 백남준미디어아트페스티벌의 〈개기일식 기다리기〉는 관객과 함께 '기다림'이라는 하나의 공연을 만들어냈습니다.

음이온은 연극을 일시적으로 존재하는 관계의 네트워크이자 공유의 실천으로 바라보며, 서로 다른 존재들이 같은 시간과 공간을 만들어가는 작업을 이어오고 있습니다. 이번 퍼포먼스에서도 미술관은 극장이 되고, 관객은 공연을 함께 만들어가는 존재가 되었습니다.

〈개기일식 기다리기〉는 도래하지 않는 개기일식을 함께 기다리는 행위를 통해 가상의 극장을 현재의 미술관 안에 중첩시켰습니다. 아무 일도 일어나지 않는 것처럼 보이는 시간 속에서 관객들은 기다림에 함께 공모하며 하나의 공동 연극을 완성했고, 서로의 존재만으로 공연은 비로소 시작되었습니다.

〈Waiting for Totality〉 invited audiences to create a performance through the simple act of waiting together.

ummeeeonn understands theatre as a temporary network of relationships, where performance emerges through shared presence rather than spectacle. In this work, the museum became a theatre, and the audience became an essential part of the performance itself.

By superimposing an imagined theatre onto the museum, Waiting for Totality transformed waiting into a shared theatrical event. In a space where seemingly nothing happened, audiences collectively created the performance simply by agreeing to wait for an eclipse that would never arrive.

제1회 백남준미디어아트페스티벌의 〈떠도는 신호를 위한 코드〉가 백남준아트센터를 실시간으로 생성되는 소리와 코드의 무대로 바꾸었습니다.

박다희는 라이브 코딩을 통해 구조와 알고리즘이 만들어내는 소리, 그리고 그 생성 과정을 관객과 함께 경험하는 작업을 이어왔습니다. 이번 퍼포먼스에서는 실시간 코딩과 사운드가 하나의 연주가 되어 데이터의 흐름을 감각하게 했습니다.

〈떠도는 신호를 위한 코드〉는 전지구적 네트워크를 떠도는 데이터와 알고리즘을 실시간으로 수신하고 재구성하며, 끊임없이 변화하는 사운드 회로를 만들어냈습니다. 선택되지 못했던 신호들은 소리로 드러나고, 배경에 머물던 데이터는 하나의 청취 가능한 사건으로 전환되며 관객들에게 새로운 듣기의 경험을 제안했습니다.

𝘾𝙤𝙙𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘿𝙧𝙞𝙛𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙖𝙡 brought audiences together for a live coding lecture performance that transformed real-time programming into a shared listening experience.

Receiving and reconfiguring the flows of data and algorithms drifting across global networks, the work continuously generated an evolving circuit of sound. Signals that might otherwise remain unnoticed emerged as audible events, inviting audiences to reconsider what is heard, what is filtered out, and how data becomes sound.

Chae-Eul aka In-Jung Jun is a choreographer and Bodyscape Director whose practice explores the relationship between the body, perception, and the world. Together with hwahwa and Ki-Hun Kim, she transformed the exhibition halls into a living performance space.

HEY_NAM-JUNE_WHERE_ARE_YOU? // I_AM_HERE moved between Stars, Trigrams and Moons: The Glowing Rainbow Dots, translating the artworks through the body. Instead of explanation, movement; instead of words, the body connected one exhibition to the other, allowing audiences to encounter both the artworks and a living moment unfolding in the galleries.

제1회 백남준미디어아트페스티벌의 첫 퍼포먼스였던 〈굉 : Cosmic Human Symphony〉가 관객들과 만났습니다.

임용주 퓨처사운드랩은 전통악기와 전자음향을 하나의 무대로 엮어내며, 음악을 자연의 질서이자 연결의 원리로 다시 사유하게 했습니다.

율(律)에서 합(合)으로 이어지는 다섯 개의 장면 속에서 여러 악기들은 서로를 확장하며 하나의 우주를 만들어냈고, 기술과 예술, 전통과 미래가 교차하는 풍경을 현재의 시간 속에 펼쳐 보였습니다.

As the opening performance of the festival, Gweng: Cosmic Human Symphony brought together traditional Korean instruments, electronic sound, and East Asian cosmology in a musical exploration of harmony and the natural order.

Moving through five chapters—from Yul (律) to Hap (合)—the performance intertwined the resonances of the Pal-eum tradition with contemporary electronic sound, opening a space where tradition and the future, technology and art could coexist.

《달들》 워크숍― 행성-자연의 빛, 위성- 미래의 빛

이지연()은 이번 전시의 출품작 〈얼룩무지개 7〉 시리즈의 주요 매체인 나노필름을 활용하여, 관객이 스스로 자연 속의 빛을 탐험 해보는 워크숍을 마련합니다. 이지연은 반도체 신기술로 제작된 나노필름을 대중적인 예술 경험의 영역으로 가져와, 관람객이 기술을 통해 자연의 빛을 새롭게 감각하고 탐색하는 여정을 함께 나누고자 합니다.

2020년부터 시작된 얼룩무지개숲 연작은 나노패턴 복제 기술로 제작된 필름을 주재료 삼아, 장소특정적 맥락에 맞춰 다양한 형태로 변주되어 온 작업입니다. 작품을 구성하는 필름은 반도체 공정용 나노웨이퍼 원판에서 제각각 다른 패턴의 구조색 color) 필름을 복제해낸 것으로, 외부의 빛 변화에 극도로 민감하게 반응하는 특성을 지닙니다. 작가는 오랜 시간 화학공학 및 나노공정 등 첨단 기술의 현장을 탐구하며, 예술과 기술의 경계에서 새로운 미적 감각을 깨울 수 있는 독창적인 매체를 발굴하고 이를 작품에 적극적으로 도입해 왔습니다.

백남준의 '행성적 사유'와 에서 영감을 받은 신작 〈얼룩무지개숲 7〉을 통해 기술과 자연, 우주를 잇는 이지연 작가의 행성을 전시장에서 만날 수 있습니다.

Bringing semiconductor-based nano-film into the realm of artistic experience, the workshop encourages participants to discover new ways of sensing and exploring natural light through technology.

Since 2020, Lee's 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣-𝙍𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙗𝙤𝙬 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩 series has used structural-color films produced through nano-pattern replication technology, adapting them to site-specific contexts. Replicated from semiconductor nano-wafer masters, the films respond sensitively to changes in ambient light, creating ever-changing visual experiences. Through ongoing research into chemical engineering and nano-processing, Lee explores new aesthetic possibilities at the intersection of art and advanced technology.

Inspired by Nam June Paik's "planetary thinking" and 𝘛𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘭𝘦, 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣-𝙍𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙗𝙤𝙬 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩 7 invites visitors to encounter a world where technology, nature, and the cosmos converge.

제1회 백남준미디어아트페스티벌 《백남준의 행성》의 개막주간 성료 ✨

전시 《별, 괘卦》와 《달들》을 비롯해 렉처와 워크숍, 음악, 움직임, 라이브 코딩, 레이저, 연극, 그리고 굿까지. 서로 다른 궤도를 그리던 예술가와 관람객들이 한자리에 모여 백남준이 꿈꾸었던 연결의 우주를 함께 만들었습니다.

개막주간 동안 백남준아트센터를 찾아주신 모든 분들, 그리고 페스티벌을 함께 완성해 주신 참여 작가와 퍼포머, 협력 기관, 스태프 여러분께 진심으로 감사드립니다.

백남준아트센터에서는 전시 《별, 괘卦》와 《달들》이 계속됩니다. 백남준이 상상한 행성을 천천히 거닐며, 각자의 속도로 새로운 연결을 발견해 보시기 바랍니다.

The opening week of the inaugural NJP Media Arts Festival, 𝙒𝙖𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙐.𝙁.𝙊, has successfully come to a close.

From the concurrent opening of the exhibitions 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙨, 𝙏𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢𝙨 and 𝙈𝙤𝙤𝙣𝙨: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙍𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙗𝙤𝙬 𝘿𝙤𝙩𝙨 to lectures, workshops, music, movement, live coding, laser performances, theatre, and gut, artists and audiences—each tracing their own orbit—came together to create the interconnected universe that Nam June Paik envisioned.

Our sincere thanks to everyone who visited the Nam June Paik Art Center during the opening week, as well as to all of the participating artists, performers, partner institutions, and staff who made this festival possible.

The exhibitions 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙨, 𝙏𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢𝙨 and 𝙈𝙤𝙤𝙣𝙨: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙍𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙗𝙤𝙬 𝘿𝙤𝙩𝙨 remain on view at the Nam June Paik Art Center. We invite you to wander through the planet imagined by Nam June Paik at your own pace and discover new connections along the way.
