《Off-line: Book & Blank》

Art Space X는 최서원 작가를 초청하여 개인전 《Off-line: Book & Blank》를 선보입니다.

최서원은 치열한 현실 속에서 각자의 역할을 수행하며 살아가는 현대인의 삶에 주목합니다. 작가는 그렇게 하루를 견뎌낸 뒤 누구의 시선이나 요구에도 방해받지 않고, 온전히 자신으로 돌아갈 수 있는 공간을 ‘슈필라움(Spielraum)’으로 그려냅니다.

작품 속 리클라이너 위에 놓인 넥타이는 역할과 긴장에서 벗어나는 순간을 상징합니다. 스피커와 헤드폰, 카메라, 미니카, 로봇 피규어 등 개인의 취향과 기억이 담긴 사물들은 낯설게 병치되며 현실과 상상, 과거와 현재가 공존하는 내밀한 공간을 만듭니다.

전통 회화에서 출발한 조형 감각은 현대의 사물, 명징한 색채와 간결한 구성을 통해 새롭게 펼쳐집니다. 전시 제목의 ‘Off-line’은 세상과의 단절이 아니라 자신에게 다시 접속하기 위해 잠시 연결을 멈추는 선택을 의미합니다.

《Off-line: Book & Blank》는 끊임없이 연결된 일상에서 잠시 벗어나 자신의 호흡과 속도를 되찾는 시간을 제안합니다.

Choi Seowon Solo Exhibition

《Off-line: Book & Blank》

Art Space X is pleased to present Choi Seowon’s solo exhibition, 《Off-line: Book & Blank》.

Choi focuses on the lives of people navigating the roles and demands of contemporary society. She portrays “Spielraum” as a space where, after enduring the pressures of the day, one can step away from the expectations of others and return fully to oneself.

In her works, a necktie resting on a recliner symbolizes the moment of release from daily roles and tensions. Speakers, headphones, cameras, miniature cars, and robot figures—objects imbued with personal tastes and memories—are arranged in unexpected combinations, creating intimate spaces where reality and imagination, past and present coexist.

Rooted in traditional Korean painting, her visual language unfolds through contemporary objects, vivid colors, and concise compositions. “Off-line” does not signify a permanent disconnection from the world, but rather a conscious pause that allows one to reconnect with oneself.

《Off-line: Book & Blank》 invites viewers to step away from the constant flow of everyday life and rediscover their own rhythm and pace.

16점의 원형 프레스코는 공항과 지하철, 공공 녹지와 실내조경 등 도시 곳곳에서 포착한 이식된 자연의 풍경을 담는다. 서로 다른 장소에서 발견한 장면들은 관리와 돌봄, 제한된 환경 속에서도 생장을 이어가는 식물의 시간을 기록한다.
인공조명과 사물의 흔적, 빛과 색채가 교차하는 화면은 자연이 도시 안으로 옮겨지고 배치되는 방식을 드러낸다. 프레스코의 물질적 시간과 식물의 시간이 겹쳐지며, 16개의 풍경은 도시와 자연이 관계를 맺으며 이어지는 하나의 생태적 풍경으로 확장된다.

Sixteen circular frescoes capture scenes of transplanted nature across the city—from airports and subway stations to public green spaces and interior landscapes. Observed in different settings, these scenes trace the time of plants that continue to grow within environments shaped by care, maintenance, and constraint.
Artificial light, traces of objects, and shifting colors reveal how nature is brought into the city, arranged, and sustained. As the material time of fresco intersects with the time of plant life, the sixteen scenes come together as a single ecological landscape, tracing the evolving relationship between nature and the city.

《옮겨진 자리마다》는 이동하는 인간과 이식된 식물, 그리고 그 사이에 축적된 돌봄의 시간을 바라봅니다.

공항의 실내정원, 지하철의 화분, 빌딩 로비와 공공 녹지. 도시 안의 식물은 옮겨지고, 관리되고, 다시 배치됩니다. 인간 역시 이동과 임시적 거주를 반복하며 새로운 삶의 자리를 만들어갑니다.

전시는 식물의 이식과 인간의 이동을 하나의 동시대적 조건으로 연결합니다. 청계산에서 채집한 소리와 식생, 살아 있는 틸란드시아, 프레스코, 라이트, 그리고 조경의 흔적이 남은 사물들은 전시장 안에서 새로운 관계망을 형성합니다.

묘목 끈, 화분, 호스, 삽, 플라스틱 망, 버려진 병. 기능을 다한 사물들은 돌봄과 노동, 소비의 시간을 품은 채 또 다른 존재 방식으로 전환됩니다.

《옮겨진 자리마다》는 옮겨진 식물과 이동하는 인간, 그리고 그 곁을 이루는 사물들이 서로의 환경이 되어가는 과정을 바라봅니다. 옮겨진 자리마다 새로운 관계가 이어지고, 함께 살아낸 시간이 하나의 장소가 됩니다.

Rooted in Transit looks at moving bodies, transplanted plants, and the time of care accumulated between them.

Indoor gardens at airports, potted plants in subway stations, building lobbies, and public green spaces. Plants in the city are moved, tended, and rearranged. People, too, repeatedly move and inhabit temporary spaces, creating new places in which to live.

The exhibition connects the transplantation of plants and human movement as shared conditions of contemporary life. Sounds and vegetation collected from Cheonggyesan Mountain, living Tillandsia, fresco works, light, and objects bearing traces of landscaping come together within the exhibition space to form new networks of relation.

Tree ties, flowerpots, hoses, shovels, plastic mesh, discarded bottles. Objects that have outlived their original functions carry traces of care, labor, and consumption, and are transformed into new ways of existing.

Rooted in Transit observes how transplanted plants, moving bodies, and the objects that remain beside them gradually become part of one another’s environments. With each relocation, new relationships emerge, and the time lived together comes to form a place.

〈곁을 이루는〉
Assemblage of Care (2026)

이미 사용된 뒤 버려지거나 기능을 잃은 호스, 삽, 호미, 화분 걸이, 모종 플라스틱 망, 화분 등 식물을 가꾸는 데 쓰였던 도구들을 다시 배치하고 변형해 새로운 조형으로 구성한다.

여기에 청계산에서 직접 채집한 새소리가 루프탑 공간을 채우고, 조형물은 주변의 식물과 어우러져 하나의 풍경을 만든다.

본래의 쓰임에서 벗어난 사물들은 식물 곁에 머물며 새로운 존재 방식으로 이어지고, 인간의 돌봄이 남긴 흔적은 자연과 함께하는 또 하나의 장면으로 확장된다.

Art Space X는 2025년 홍콩 소버린 아시아아트프라이즈를 수상한 김유정 작가를 초청하여 개인전 《옮겨진 자리마다》를 선보입니다.

장소는 고정되어 있는가, 아니면 계속 만들어지는가.
《옮겨진 자리마다》는 이동하는 인간과 이식된 식물, 그리고 그 사이에 축적된 돌봄의 시간을 바라봅니다. 공항의 실내정원, 지하철의 화분, 빌딩 로비와 공공 녹지. 도시 안의 식물은 옮겨지고, 관리되고, 다시 배치됩니다. 인간 역시 이동과 이식적 거주를 반복하며 새로운 삶의 자리를 만들어갑니다. 작가는 부천시청 실내정원을 오랫동안 관리해 온 사람의 이야기와 인천공항 새벽의 조경 작업처럼, 도시 곳곳에서 목격한 돌봄과 관리의 장면에 주목합니다.
사람들의 시선 밖에서 반복되는 노동과 시간은 식물을 살아가게 하고, 도시의 풍경을 만들어갑니다.
전시는 청계산 자락에 위치한 아트스페이스엑스에서 시작됩니다. 청계산에서 채집한 식생과 소리, 살아 있는 틸란드시아, 프레스코, 라이트, 그리고 조경의 흔적이 남은 사물들은 전시장 안에서 새로운 생태적 관계망을 형성합니다. 묘목 끈, 화분, 호스, 삽, 플라스틱 망, 버려진 병. 기능을 다한 사물들은 돌봄과 노동, 소비의 시간을 품은 채 또 다른 존재 방식으로 전환됩니다.
도시는 식물을 옮겨 심지만, 장소는 관계가 뿌리내릴 때 만들어집니다.
《옮겨진 자리마다》는 장소를 완성된 공간이 아니라, 이동과 돌봄, 관계와 시간이 끊임없이 생성하는 살아 있는 생태적 과정으로 제안합니다.
