민족 최대의 명절인 추석을 기념하고자, 바라캇 서울은 〈이집트 고왕국 시대의 테라코타 봉헌 탁자〉를 소개합니다. 고왕국 시대의 부장품으로 추정되는 이 테라코타 조형물은 숫양과 항아리 등의 봉헌물을 올린 봉헌 탁자 모형입니다. 탁자와 항아리 모형의 표면에는 문양을 그려 넣었고 숫양은 얕은 음각으로 무늬를 형상화 했습니다. 이와 같은 모형의 용도를 정확히 파악하는 것은 불가능하지만, 망자의 생명력인 ‘카 ka’가 내세에서도 유지될 수 있도록 음료와 음식을 제공하는 봉헌물로서의 상징적 기능을 수행했을 가능성이 높습니다. 이와 같은 작품은 이후 중왕국 시대에 부장품으로 등장하는 음택(陰宅) 모형이나 일상생활을 반영한 모형들과 연관성을 가졌던 것으로 보입니다. 영원한 풍요를 형상화한 이집트 고왕국 시대의 봉헌 탁자처럼, 늘 즐겁고 풍성한 한가위만 같으시기를 바라캇 서울이 기원합니다.

Closing Notice during the Chuseok Holidays #🍯
Barakat Seoul will be closed during the Chuseok Holidays from September 16 (Mon) to 18 (Wed).

Barakat Seoul introduces the 〈Egyptian Old Kingdom Terracotta Votive Table〉 to celebrate Chuseok, the biggest holiday in Korea. This table is an example of pottery objects found in tombs which served the same purpose as offering tables from the Old Kingdom Period. The model depicts a rectangular table with offerings such as a ram and a jar. It is believed that this may have been related to a “soul house,” which was a miniature home that was buried with the deceased. Soul houses were placed on the surfaces of graves with the intention of providing accommodation and sustenance in the afterlife. These clay models could take on many forms, from simple offering trays to detailed replicas of houses including traditional Ancient Egyptian architectural elements and cult chapels. It appears that these works were related to models that depict daily life or soul houses which were commonly found as burial items during the Middle Kingdom.
