Rather than celebrating imperfection, Yang accepts deviation from intention and prediction as a fundamental condition of painting. Erasure is not mere removal, nor is wiping a return to emptiness. Traces of friction remain, and beneath layered color previous time persists. Painting emerges from a state that is neither fully erased nor fully complete.

그의 회화는 불완전성을 찬양한다기보다, 의도와 예측을 비껴나가는 과정을 회화의 실질적인 조건으로 받아들인다. 삭제는 단순히 제거가 아니고, 지우기는 공백으로의 회귀가 아니다. 지워진 자리에는 마찰의 흔적이 남고, 덮인 색 아래에는 이전의 시간이 사라지지 않은 채 머문다. 완전히 지워지지 않고, 완전히 끝나지 않는 상태가 회화를 성립시키는 조건이다.

Yang moves closer to the uncertainty of impressions and memories that slip and transform before they can be grasped. His paintings maintain layers of sensation that continually misalign and intermingle between seeing and painting.

양문모는 세계를 명징한 재현의 대상으로 다루기보다, 파악하기도 전에 미끄러지고 변형되는 인상과 기억의 불확실성에 더 가까이 다가간다. 그의 회화는 대상을 정확히 재현하려는 시도라기보다, 본다는 것과 그린다는 것 사이에서 끊임없이 어긋나고 뒤섞이는 감각의 층을 화면 위에 유지하는 방식이다.

Pipe Gallery presents 𝙉𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜, a solo exhibition by Moonmo Yang, on view from April 14 to May 13.
In this exhibition, Yang focuses on the process of painting rather than its outcome, exploring a temporal structure shaped by the repetition of drawing and erasing, construction and deconstruction. His work does not aim for a completed image or fixed meaning, but instead sustains a state of continual revision and deferral, revealing the very conditions through which painting emerges. 𝙉𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 proposes a mode of painting that departs from predetermined meaning, form, and completion, and instead exists as an open condition where creation and disappearance overlap.

파이프갤러리는 4월 14일부터 5월 13일까지 양문모의 개인전 《아무것도 아닌 것》을 개최합니다.
이번 전시에서 양문모는 회화의 결과가 아닌 과정에 주목하며, 그리기와 지우기, 구축과 해체가 반복되는 시간의 구조를 탐구합니다. 그의 작업은 완성된 이미지나 고정된 의미를 지향하기보다, 끊임없이 수정되고 유예되는 상태를 유지하며 회화가 형성되는 조건 자체를 드러냅니다. 《아무것도 아닌 것》은 회화에 부여되어 온 의미와 형상, 완결성에 대한 기대를 비워내고, 생성과 소멸이 중첩된 열린 상태로서의 회화를 제안합니다.

The solo exhibition 𝙑𝙤𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨 by Simon Ko, presented at Pipe Gallery, has concluded.
The exhibition expanded his ongoing inquiry into the formation of relationships toward a more invisible register, reflecting on the possibility of relating to what remains unseen. Through restrained compositions and figures with closed eyes, Ko evoked a resonance prior to articulation and a presence sensed rather than fully revealed. We sincerely thank all visitors for their generous interest and support, and we look forward to your continued engagement with Simon Ko’s future practice.

In Ko’s work, this separation invites deeper listening, as though summoning a sensation that exists beyond closed eyes—unseen yet palpably present. This togetherness grounded in separation—a being-with predicated on the impossibility of being together—appears concretely in 𝘈 𝘚𝘵𝘦𝘱 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘳(2026). A man walks along the shore beside an unseen presence that leaves footprints next to his own. Their encounter unfolds beyond the visual. Before Ko’s paintings, immersed in silence, viewers join these figures in anticipating something still distant—something they seem to hear or await.

사이먼 고의 회화에서 단절은, 감은 눈 너머에 보이지 않지만 있는 감각을 불러오듯이, 관객들로 하여금 더 귀 기울이게 한다. 단절에 기반하는—함께할 수 없음의 함께함은 (2026)에 구체적으로 찾아볼 수 있다. 바닷가를 걷는 남자와 모습을 나타내지 않지만, 옆에서 발자국을 남긴 존재는 비-시각적인 만남을 통해서 함께한다. 정적에, 말 없음에 잠긴 사이먼 고의 회화 앞에서, 이들이 듣거나 기다리는, 아직 멀리 있는 뭔가를 관객은 함께 고대한다.

Closed eyes signal immersion—meditation, reverie, or contemplation. Thus stillness accumulates. To be immersed is to remain here while descending elsewhere, toward depth. This profundity is oriented toward a time or presence yet to arrive.

감은 눈은 잠긴 상태이다. 명상이나 상념, 생각에 잠긴 상태. 그렇기에 고요함은 이곳에 차오른다. 잠긴다는 것은 지금 이곳에 있으면서도 더 밑으로, 심오함으로 내려가는 모종의 이탈적인 행위이다. 이 심오함은 도래하는 시간이나 대상을 염원하는 곳을 향한다.
