These small cups are also very practical as everyday drinking cups.
They are lightweight and comfortable to drink from, making them the kind of tableware you’ll want to use every day.

こちらの作品「花を纏う」は、酒器としても小鉢としても使える絶妙なサイズ感です。
また、漆と錫という限られた素材により多様な景色が表れています。
ついつい手に取りたくなる質感が黒木さんらしいです。

Day 12 of Sayo Kuroki’s “Signs of the Seasons” has finished!

This piece, titled “Wrapped in Flowers,” is the perfect size to serve as both a sake cup and a small serving bowl.
Furthermore, the limited palette of lacquer and tin gives rise to a rich variety of visual textures.
The texture, which makes you want to pick it up, is very characteristic of Kuroki.

We’ve also launched online sales starting tonight.

写真の脚付椀は、シックな外側の仕上げと内側の錫が蒔かれた上に描かれた模様のコントラストが特徴的です。
カップや向付としてなど、使い手によってさまざまな用途が想像できる余白があるのが黒木さんのうつわの特徴です。

さて、明日5.12(火)20:00〜5.20(水)23:00の期間で、一部作品のオンライン販売をスタートいたします。

Day 11 of Sayo Kuroki’s “Signs of the Seasons” has finished!

The footed bowls pictured here are characterized by the contrast between their chic outside finish and the patterns painted on the tin-coated inside.
A distinctive feature of Kuroki’s vessel is the versatility it offers, allowing users to imagine a variety of uses-such as serving as cups or small side dishes.

We are pleased to announce that selected works will be available for purchase online from tomorrow, Tuesday, May 12, at 8:00 PM through Wednesday, May 20, at 11:00 PM.

こちらの蓋物は、それぞれの面に花がかたちで描かれていて、異なる景色を見せてくれます。
どの面も同じく錫粉を使っていますが、光の当たり方によって見え方が変わるのがおもしろいです。
そして昨日の長手箱と同じく、和菓子を入れるととても映えそうです。

Each side of this lidded box features a floral design, offering a different view from every angle.
While tin powder is used on all sides, it’s fascinating how the appearance changes depending on how the light hits it.
And just like yesterday’s long box, it would look absolutely stunning filled with traditional Japanese sweets.

黒木紗世 “季のけはい”9日目終了しました！

こちらの箱は細長い形状が特徴的で、全体に回っている模様が華やかな空気感をつくり出し、
錫と漆により重ねられたレイヤーが奥行きのある景色を表現しています。
さらに、蓋を開けると裏側に描かれた模様があらわれ、より一層煌びやかさを増します。

個性的なプロポーションですが、和菓子を並べて入れるなど使い手の想像力を掻き立てる作品となっています！

This box is characterized by its slender, elongated shape. The pattern that wraps around the entire piece creates a festive atmosphere, while the layers of tin and lacquer evoke a sense of depth.
Furthermore, when you open the lid, the pattern on the underside is revealed, adding an even more dazzling touch.

Though it has unique proportions, this piece sparks the user’s imagination-perhaps by arranging traditional Japanese sweets inside!

黒木紗世 “季のけはい”8日目終了しました！

写真の作品は、眉間寺椀と呼ばれる南北朝時代に奈良で作られていた漆椀のかたちを写したものです。
眉間寺椀は元々天目を写していて、天目台に載せて使用されていたそうです。
そのため端正な佇まいをしていて、通常の漆椀とは違った印象を持ちます。

用途は特に決められてはおらず、ご飯や汁椀としてもお使いいただけますし、少し小振りなので旅茶碗として茶箱に入れて持ち運ぶのも、やきものに比べて破損の心配が少なく良いのではないかと思います。

Day 8 of Sayo Kuroki’s “Signs of the Seasons” has finished!

The pieces pictured here are modeled after the shape of a lacquer bowl known as a “Mikenji-wan bowl,” which was made in Nara during the Nanboku-chō period.
The Mikenji-wan bowl was originally modeled after a tenmoku tea bowl and was used on a tenmoku stand.
As a result, it has a refined appearance and gives a different impression from ordinary lacquer bowls.

There is no specific designated use for this bowl; it can be used for rice or soup. Since it is slightly smaller in size, I think it would be ideal as a travel bowl to carry in a tea box, as there is less risk of breakage compared to ceramic ware.

写真の合鹿椀（ごうろくわん）は、びっしりと細部まで描き込まれた模様が印象的です。
合鹿椀とは、元々能登地方で作られていた雑器で、お膳なしで床に直接置いても料理を口元に運びやすいように高台が高くなっていて、何にでも使えるよう大振りでどっしりとした作りになっています。
黒木さんはこの椀を再解釈し、模様を全体に巡らせ、さらに黒い部分にドットを重ねることで華やかな雰囲気をつくり出しています。
また、高台は全体に錫粉を蒔き、裏側まで模様をつけることでよりその力強さを強調しています。
見た目はハレの場にふさわしい佇まいをしていますが、オリジナルの使われ方を考えるとあえてシンプルなお料理を盛り付けて日常的にお使いいただくのもよいのではないかと思います。

Day 7 of Sayo Kuroki’s “Signs of the Seasons” has finished!

The Goroku-wan bowl pictured here is striking for its intricate patterns, which are densely rendered down to the finest details.
Goroku-wan bowls were originally utilitarian vessels made in the Noto region. They feature a high foot so that food can be easily brought to the mouth even when placed directly on the floor without a tray, and their large, stable form allows them to be used for any purpose.
Kuroki has reinterpreted this bowl by wrapping the pattern around its entire surface and layering dots over the black areas to create a vibrant atmosphere.
Furthermore, he has sprinkled tin powder over the entire foot and applied the pattern to the underside as well, further emphasizing its robust character.
While its appearance lends itself to formal occasions, considering its original purpose, I think it would also be lovely to serve simple dishes in it for everyday use.

黒木さんの作品は、基本的に黒がベースのものが多いですが、中には朱漆を使ったうつわもあります。
写真の酒器は、錫と朱との組み合わせがより一層華やかな印象を与えています。
高台とのバランスもとても綺麗です。

While most of Kuroki’s works are primarily black, some of her pieces feature vermilion lacquer.
In the photos, the combination of tin and vermilion gives the sake set an even more vibrant appearance.
The balance with the foot is also very elegant.

Wide sake cups feature incredibly dense patterns covering their entire surface, creating a complete and self-contained world all on its own.
The fact that such a wealth of detail can be packed into a piece small enough to fit in one hand is a testament to the meticulous craftsmanship unique to lacquerware.

写真の作品は別名「晩酌盆」と名付けられていて、文字通りお酒を飲むときにとても使い勝手が良いうつわです。
こちらはリバーシブルになっていて、裏表で縁の高さが変わるようになっています。
盛り付けるお料理や気分でどちらでも使えますので、さまざまな楽しみ方が考えられると思います！

This piece, also named “Evening Drink Tray,” is, as the name suggests, a very practical dish for enjoying a drink.
It’s reversible, with the rim height changing depending on which side is facing up.
You can use either side depending on the food you’re serving or your mood, so there are many ways to enjoy it!

写真の茶器“花影”は、全面に錫粉が蒔かれてその上に絵が描かれています。
光の当たり方によって反射の具合が大きく異なり、暗がりの中でぼんやりと光を反射する様子は、秀吉の黄金の茶室にも通ずるような効果をもたらします。
さらに所々に螺鈿が施されることで、煌びやかさを増し、小さい中に独自の世界観をつくり出しています。
時間帯によって表情を変える姿は、それぞれとても綺麗なので、ぜひじっくりとご覧いただきたいです！

This time, we have a lot of lidded pieces on exhibition.
Each piece is adorned with intricately drawn images, offering unique highlights whether you open the lid or turn the piece over to view the reverse side.
Yet, even amidst these details, there is still plenty of negative space left, and I believe this exquisite balance—which never loses its sense of tranquility—is characteristic of Kuroki’s works.
