Artist in Conversation：オータム・ナイト

The 5th Floorは、ニューヨークを拠点に活動するオータム・ナイトによる作品の上映およびトークイベントを開催いたします。パフォーマンス、演劇、映像、テキスト、サウンドを横断しながら「ライブ」の新たな形式を探る彼女の実践は、パフォーマンスの場を通して、制度や権力、そして身体との関係を新たに立ち上げます。彼女は現在、神奈川県のHayama Artist Residencyにて1ヶ月滞在制作を行っています。

本イベントでは、2025年に上演・制作された《Autumn Knight Live at the Walker》の一部を映像上映し、彼女の近年の制作やその思考を掘り下げるとともに、レジデンスの経験がいかにパフォーマンスへと展開されるか、その実践を探ります。

Artist in Conversation: Autumn Knight

The 5th Floor is pleased to present a screening and artist talk with New York based artist Autumn Knight. Working across performance, theater, video, text, and sound, Knight explores new forms of liveness through an interdisciplinary practice that reconfigures relationships between institutions, authority, and the body within the space of performance. She is currently undertaking a one-month residency at Hayama Artist Residency in Kanagawa, Japan.

As part of the event, excerpts from “Autumn Knight Live at the Walker” (2025) will be screened, followed by a conversation examining her recent work and thoughts behind her practices. The discussion will also consider how her ongoing residency experience may unfold into future performances, offering insight into her evolving practice.

Thank you so much for coming to “Stilllive Documents 2019-2025”!

【Statement】

The performance platform Stilllive has cultivated a space in which relationships between individuals and collectives, subjects and their surrounding conditions, emerge through chains of embodied collaboration and improvisational response. Rather than presenting finished works, its practice places emphasis on the very process in which relationships fluctuate and take shape.
The exhibition Stilllive Documents 2019–2025 reflects on the activities of Stilllive from 2019 to 2025, centering on previously unpublished photographic and video materials. These records are not merely traces of events, but contain within them the relationships, tensions, and responses that arose in each moment. Rather than simply reconstructing past events, the exhibition presents practices across multiple years in a transversal manner, placing temporally distant moments within the same space. In doing so, it offers fragmentary insights into the methodologies that run through Stilllive, their transformations over time, and the ways in which situations are generated.

パフォーマンスプラットフォームStilllive（スティルライブ）は、身体を通じた協働と即興的な応答の連鎖を軸に、個人と集団、主体と周囲の状況との関係が立ち上がる場を生成してきました。その実践は、完成された作品の提示ではなく、関係が揺れ動くプロセスそのものに重心を置いています。 
本展「Stilllive Documents 2019–2025」では、未公開の写真・映像資料を中心に、Stillliveの2019年から2025年までの活動を振り返ります。これらの記録は単なる出来事の痕跡ではなく、その場に生起した関係性や緊張、応答を内包するものです。展示では、過去の出来事を単に再現するのではなく、複数年にわたる実践を横断的に提示し、時間的に隔たった出来事同士を同一の場に布置します。それにより、Stillliveに通底する方法論やその変遷、そして場の生成のあり方を、断片的に示唆するものとなります。

【CURRENT EXHIBITION】

Deep in the Sway

To raise one’s voice and to sing are acts that can become techniques to resist the existing systems and conditions that render such voices invisible, and a way to register one’s own existence within society. Countless voices are drowned out and erased within complex politico-economic dynamics. Yet rather than perceiving them merely as the cries of the weak or of minorities, might we instead consider them as methods through which new rules—and new forms of life—are performatively etched into this world?

Deep in the Sway introduces the practices of four artists, each of whom engage in the act of listening to voices, songs, narratives, and cries through distinct approaches. The voices they gather and amplify each carry their own specific contexts—deviation from the existing world orders, patriarchy, collective practices of care, and forms of escape from the nation-state. These voices are not isolated from each other, but rather, they resonate within this world, intertwined like complex underground waterways running through the dense mesh of history. By listening to them, this exhibition not only attends to these voices, but also considers them as concrete practices through which one may resist reality with persistence and resourcefulness.
