PHOTOBOOK AS OBJECT 2026 TOKYO
昨日、ワークショップ3日目が終了しました。

前半の最終日となったこの日は、参加者それぞれが自身のプロジェクトをもとにファーストダミーブックの制作に取り組みました。

講師との個別セッションを重ねながら、手製本による試作やInDesignでの編集、プリントを用いた検証など、さまざまな方法を往復しながら作品の構成を探っていきました。
17時からは、完成したファーストダミーブックのプレゼンテーションを実施。

参加者は実際にページをめくりながら作品を紹介し、編集やシークエンス、本の構造について意見を交わしました。
ダミーブックという形になったことで、それまで見えていなかった課題や可能性が浮かび上がり、それぞれのプロジェクトの次の展開に向けた具体的な議論が行われました。
本日からは3日間の中休み期間に入りますが、参加者たちの制作は続きます。

製本ワークショップへの参加、用紙や印刷方法のリサーチ、新たな撮影や編集作業など、後半戦に向けた準備がそれぞれの場所で進められています。

次回の集合日には、この期間の試行錯誤を経て更新されたダミーブックが再び持ち寄られます。
数日間の制作を経て、各プロジェクトがどのような変化を見せるのか楽しみです。

PHOTOBOOK AS OBJECT 2026 TOKYO
Yesterday marked the conclusion of Day 3 of the workshop.

As the final day of the first half of the program, participants focused on creating their first dummy books based on their individual projects. Through a series of one-on-one sessions with the tutors, they explored different approaches to structure and sequencing, moving between hand-bound prototypes, editing in InDesign, and testing layouts through printed materials.

At 5:00 p.m., participants presented their completed first dummy books. Turning the pages of their books, they introduced their projects and exchanged feedback on editing, sequencing, and book structure. Taking the form of a dummy book brought new challenges and possibilities into view, leading to focused discussions about the next stages of each project’s development.

From today, the workshop enters a three-day break period, but the participants’ work continues. Some will take part in bookbinding workshops, while others will research papers and printing methods, continue photographing, or further develop their edits. During this time, each participant will continue refining their project in preparation for the second half of the workshop.

When the group reconvenes, updated dummy books shaped by several days of experimentation and reflection will be brought back for review. We are looking forward to seeing how each project evolves through this period of independent work.

「Photobook as Object」は、ベルギーの写真家ヤン・ロッシール（Jan Rosseel）とRPSキュレーター後藤由美が講師を務める写真集制作ワークショップです。2014年の初回開催以来、世界各地から集まった写真家たちとともに、“触知できる写真集”を探求する場として継続されてきました。
2026年は東京・京都の2都市を舞台に開催され、5月はRPS KYOTO PAPEROLESにて京都会場プログラムが実施されました。
東京・RPSでは、世界各国から参加した12名の参加者を迎えて5月29日、30日、31日、6月4日、5日、6日の計6日間にわたり開催中です。

今回のワークショップでは、参加者それぞれが抱える切実な問いから出発した多様なプロジェクトが持ち寄られました。
隔離された信仰の場に集う人々の営み、亡き友人との記憶と対話、過去の傷とともに生きる現在、家に堆積する家族の時間、理髪店からたどる時代の痕跡、受け継がれる地域文化と共同体の姿、季節の兆しに宿る時間の気配、映画が結ぶ夢と共同体。さらに、国家と家族のあいだで問われる居場所と責任、地方における帰属の感覚、遺品から書き継がれる物語など、それぞれの作品は異なるかたちで、人と場所、記憶、社会との関係を見つめています。
また、参加者たちは写真だけでなく、アーカイブ、日記、手紙、インタビュー、映像など多様な素材を往還しながら、「写真集」という形式のなかで、経験や記憶、感情をどのように他者と共有できるのかを模索しています。

参加者たちは6日間にわたり試行錯誤を重ねながら、それぞれのプロジェクトを写真集というかたちへと立ち上げようとしています。
本イベントでは、そのプロセスの途上にあるダミーブックや試作とともに、参加者自身の言葉によるプレゼンテーションをご覧いただけます。

6/7 1PM- PUBLIC PRESENTATION BY PARTICIPANTS OF THE WORKSHOP “PHOTOBOOK AS OBJECT 2026 TOKYO”

On Sunday, June 7, 2026, we will host a public presentation by participants of the photobook workshop PHOTOBOOK AS OBJECT 2026 TOKYO.

The gallery will open at 1:00 PM, and visitors are welcome to freely browse the participants’ dummy books and research materials. Public presentations are scheduled to begin at approximately 1:30 PM.

Photobook as Object is an intensive photobook workshop led by Belgian photographer Jan Rosseel and RPS curator Yumi Goto. Since its inception in 2014, the workshop has brought together photographers from around the world to explore the photobook as a tactile and experiential medium.

In 2026, the workshop is being held in both Kyoto and Tokyo. The Kyoto session took place in May at RPS KYOTO PAPEROLES. The Tokyo session, hosted by Reminders Photography Stronghold (RPS), is currently underway over six days—May 29, 30, 31 and June 4, 5, 6—with twelve participants from across the globe.

This year's workshop has brought together a wide range of projects, each emerging from deeply personal and urgent questions. The works explore subjects such as communities gathered around isolated places of faith; memories of and conversations with deceased friends; living with the traces of past wounds; the accumulation of family time within the home; historical traces revealed through barbershops; inherited local cultures and communities; seasonal signs and the passage of time; and the ways cinema creates connections between dreams and collective experience.

Other projects examine questions of belonging and responsibility between nation and family, feelings of attachment to rural places, and stories reconstructed through inherited personal belongings. Though diverse in form and subject, these works share a concern with the relationships between people and place, memory and society.

Participants are working not only with photographs, but also with archives, diaries, letters, interviews, moving images, and other materials. Through the format of the photobook, they are exploring how experiences, memories, and emotions can be communicated and shared with others.

Over the course of six workshop days, participants have been developing their projects through ongoing experimentation and dialogue, seeking ways to transform them into photobooks. This event offers a rare opportunity to encounter these works in progress through dummy books, prototypes, and presentations by the participants themselves.

PHOTOBOOK AS OBJECT 2026 TOKYO – Day 2

The second day of PHOTOBOOK AS OBJECT 2026 TOKYO has come to an end.

The day began at 9:00 a.m. Building on the feedback and discussions generated during the first day’s presentations, participants revisited their wall displays and restructured their projects into new configurations. They then delivered a second round of five-minute presentations based on these revised presentations and displays. Each presentation was followed by lively questions and discussions, creating a valuable opportunity to share both the challenges and possibilities within each project.

In the afternoon, participants met individually with the workshop tutors. Through one-on-one conversations about editing strategies, conceptual development, and the relationship between their work and the book form, each participant continued to explore new directions for their project.

Throughout the workspace, a wide range of approaches could be seen: some participants rearranged images while considering page sequences, others experimented with physical book structures by cutting and assembling prints, while others focused on refining texts and research materials to further develop their concepts.

Today, the individual sessions will continue as participants begin working on their first dummy books.

京都でのワークショップは先日無事終了し、その余韻のなか、東京・RPSでは、世界各国から集まった12名の参加者が、それぞれのプロジェクトを発表し、密度の高いプレゼンテーションが展開されました。

The workshop in Kyoto has recently come to a close, and carrying its lingering atmosphere, the Tokyo session at RPS opened with presentations by 12 participants from around the world, each sharing their individual projects in a dense and focused presentation format.

Participants constructed a “wall” as a spatial and conceptual framework for their projects, arranging photographs, research materials, and texts while articulating their ideas in their own words. Through this process, they shared the backgrounds and intentions behind their works. Lecturers Jan Russell and Yumi Goto offered questions and insights that point toward further development.

On the second day, participants will begin by re-editing their walls, informed by the feedback received on the first day, as well as insights emerging from dialogue among participants. It is an essential process of reconsidering and deepening the structure of each project.

Over the course of this six-day workshop, we will continue to follow how the 12 projects evolve and gradually take shape as photobooks.

2026年度6月の企画展として、石黒萌子による写真展「Notation(s)」を開催いたします。

石黒はこれまで、日常の風景のなかでふと視線がとどまる瞬間に関心を寄せ、写真を通してその感覚を掬い上げてきました。
見慣れた街角や建築の断片、自然と人工物の境界、整っているはずの構図のなかに、わずかなずれや揺らぎがふと立ち上がることがあります。それは明確な出来事というよりも、言葉にするにはあまりに小さな感覚です。
そうした関心の延長として、2024年には「PHOTOBOOK AS OBJECT」ワークショップに参加し、写真集の制作に取り組みました。
抽象的な感覚を起点に、構成を幾度も組み替えながら試行を重ねるなかで、曖昧だった気配は少しずつ輪郭を帯び、やがてかたちとなって定着していきました。そうした積み重ねが、本展へとつながっています。
本展「Notation(s)」では、その小さな感覚のもとに撮影された写真と、それらを「記譜」というかたちへと展開した試みを通して、風景との関係を探ります。写しとどめることと、整理し、理解しようとすること。その往復のなかで、風景をどのように受け取り、そこからどのような感覚や想像が立ち上がっているのかを、共有しうるかたちで差し出そうとしています。
また本展にあわせ、同名のアーティストブック「Notation(s)」（限定100部）を刊行しております。本作は内容はすべて同一でありながら、100冊それぞれに異なるタイトルが付けられています。各タイトルは本編に収められた100枚の写真のうちの一枚を指し示すものであり、同じ内容をもつ本に対して、100通りの異なる入口が与えられる構成となっています。
