中本誠司現代美術館は仙台市青葉区東勝山の閑静な住宅街にあります。
白いスペイン風のお城のような建物は、現代アート作家である故 中本誠司によって、1976年に彼の作品の発表の場、アトリエとして設計されました。
基礎工事以外は、中本がテントを張り生活し、コンクリートをこね、4年の歳月をかけ建設。そしてホールは「我々の家」と呼ばれ、多くのアーティストの交流の場となりました。
中本誠司が亡くなり2000年からは、中本誠司を世に広める活動、また中本誠司の遺志をうけつぎ、中本誠司の作品の展示、アーティストの交流の場、そして若手アーティストの育成をめざし、たくさんの展覧会、イベント、コンサートなどを企画、開催しています。
At one corner of the residence quarters, a white spanish style building appears, which is
Seishi Nakamoto Private Museum.（The present name is a Seishi Nakamoto Museum of Contemporary Art.） He made most of it by himself except the foundation work. The museum is on the second floor, and it is open for people to see his works all the time. His works, the objects made of iron plates, half cubism arts using iron and wood, paintings e.t.c which show his intensive individuality, are exhibited. This is the place where anyone can see and feel Modern Arts in Nakamoto's world. Also, Museum Concerts have been carried out several time a year, and there are many people who come to enjoy the music. The concert performed by a singular cembalist, Mayako Sone has also been held.
