中国で青磁が本格的に焼けるようになったのは、晋時代（265〜420）の浙江省。皿・鉢などの他に、動物を象ったものや、本作のように、動物の体の一部を付けた容器が作られました。鉄斑が施された大きな眼がカワイイです。取っ手の先が口の部分をかむような形が、のちの龍頭の取っ手への発展を予感させます。（-10/12）

Celadon emerged as an established type of Chinese pottery during the Jin dynasty (265–420) in what is now Zhejiang province. In addition to dishes and bowls, vessels were made in the forms of animals or incorporating certain parts of animals, as in this example. Its large eyes are painted with underglaze iron pigment, giving the vessel a lively expression. (-10/12)
