The Training Division of the Hiroshima International Center welcomed 18 university students from Hasanuddin University in Indonesia and conducted a training program from March 24 to April 5, 2026. In Indonesia, many universities require students to participate in KKN (an abbreviation for Kuliah Kerja Nyata), a community service program in which students contribute to local society. During their stay in Japan, the participants engaged in the following activities:
-English picture book reading at the Onomichi Council of Social Welfare
-House cleaning activities with the Onomichi Vacant House Renovation Project
-International exchange at the Ryuo Ikiki Children’s Club (after-school program)
-International exchange with participants of the NOVA English Camp
-Offering paper crane art at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park
-English picture book reading and English conversation activities at the Hiroshima International Plaza
-Environmental clean-up activities on Miyajima, home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site
-International exchange at Smile Lab Hiroshima
In addition, the students experienced peace education, homestay, Japanese language lessons, and various cultural activities such as flower arrangement, yukata dressing, okonomiyaki cooking, samurai experience, calligraphy, and tea ceremony. They also visited the Mazda Museum, toured Hiroshima University, enjoyed strawberry picking, and attended the Hakuryuko Fireworks Festival.
The fireworks on the final day were especially moving and became an unforgettable memory for the participants.
