We lost the glass in one framed artwork in tonight's 7.6 magnitude earthquake, but otherwise, we're fine. The coastal area received a tsunami evacuation order within minutes of the quake, but it was lifted for our area in a couple hours, so we're back. (...and hopefully headed for a little sleep.)

Thanks to everyone who reached out to ask about how we were following the Kamchatka earthquake and resulting coastal Japan tsunami warnings/evacuations. We were evacuated for about seven hours but experienced no damage nor any tsunami waves along the Tsugaru Strait coastline.

On another note, Monday, we are beginning a 2–3-month long renovation on our building. See you in October!

So, basically, he's claiming that tech should be allowed to steal the copyrighted works of artists, killing their livelihoods and futures in the process, and artists should just stop whining and being unrealistic about expecting permission and compensation for the works they toiled over to create?
That's called theft (and/or slavery).
No. Just no. You want the art (music, or any creative product) for WHATEVER purpose - Request it. Pay for it. The end.

Meta's former deputy prime minister has stated that having to ask artists for permission to use their content to train AI would be detrimental to the industry.

The true scale of the art losses may never be known, and depending on individual circumstances, remedy through insurance may be painfully slow or not forthcoming at all. While nothing can change the past, going forward, we urge all collectors of fine art to keep their Certificates of Authenticity in locations separate from the artworks themselves - preferably in fireproof safe deposit boxes available at banks or other institutions. Furthermore, we urge collectors to take photos of themselves in front of each piece of art while holding a government issued ID and the Certificate of Authenticity. Preserve these images on a USB stick and store alongside the original Certificates of Authenticity.

As former Los Angelenos, we mourn the staggering losses of community, livelihood, property, and art. While the confirmed death numbers are still low at this point, we expect the numbers to rise as the clean-up begins. Our hearts also go out to those who have lost friends, family members, and pets along with everything else.

As museums and countless homes burned to the ground in the Los Angeles fires this week, many are still in too much shock to assess the financial and emotional damage.
