Shinmachi was originally known as a "special restaurant district," and our gallery, which opened in May 2017, is a former s*x store that was leased and renovated. We have been offering solo exhibitions to artists from within and outside Okinawa, as well as from overseas, in order to create a place where people can come into contact with a variety of art in an area with a complicated background eve
n within Okinawa Prefecture. We have held exhibitions of various genres by both famous and unknown artists.
※On September 5, 2020, PIN-UP was completely destroyed by a fire of unknown origin. Due to the effects of the new coronavirus infection, exhibitions at PIN-UP had to be postponed or cancelled, and the accident occurred just as we were searching for a way to reopen. The gallery had only been open for four years, and just when we were thinking of taking on many more challenges, we were hit by the corona disaster and fire. After the fire, crowdfunding events were held by artists with ties to PIN-UP. and curating projects by gallery owners in and outside of the prefecture. We are currently working in various fields to rebuild the gallery.
