Welcome to Ichijodani, the castle town of the Sengoku (Warring States) period (Late 15th-16th century)! Ichijodani Asakura Family Site well preserves the castle town, governed by the Echizen Asakura Family, a feudal lord(daimyo) in the Sengoku period. The site has been designated and preserved as a National Special Historic Site, covering 278 hectares. Excavations have continued since 1967 and unearthed many materials that reveal the lifestyle of the Sengoku period. Fukui Prefectural Ichijodani Asakura Family Site Museum opened in October 2022 as the gateway to the Ichijodani Asakura Family Site so that visitors can enjoy and learn about the overall picture, historical value, and charm of the site. The museum also features the Remains Exhibition Room for the stone pavement from the Sengoku period as excavated, the Basic Exhibition Room with approximately 800 exhibits, including about 280 National Important Cultural Properties, the diorama of the castle town, and the life-sized model of the Asakura residence where the head of the family lived. It will be a wonderful opportunity for you to deepen your understanding of the history and culture of the Sengoku period through the exhibitions. We are looking forward to seeing you at the museum.
