Now Open: Lost in the Forest by Yu Seto at SHIKISAISHA
The exhibition presents a new body of sculptural works by Yu Seto, whose practice centers on life-sized sculptures of wild animals and mythical creatures, created in terracotta, wood, lacquer, and pigment. Existing between stillness and movement, Seto’s works evoke fleeting encounters deep within the forest — quiet presences that appear watchful, elusive, and only partially revealed.
Grounded in close observation of the natural world, Seto approaches sculpture as a tactile act of tracing life itself. Finger marks, textures, and subtle distortions remain visible on the surfaces, allowing each work to retain both physical weight and emotional intimacy. Rather than pursuing realism, the artist seeks to capture the sensation of encountering another creature.
In Lost in the Forest, the exhibition space unfolds as an ambiguous landscape where memory, instinct, and imagination quietly intersect. Suspended somewhere between reality and myth, the works invite viewers into a world that feels at once ancient and strangely familiar.
