ＪＰタワー学術文化総合ミュージアム「インターメディアテク」公式ページ／／／「インターメディアテク」は、日本郵便株式会社と東京大学総合研究博物館が協働で運営をおこなう、入館無料の公共貢献施設です。施設の位置する旧東京中央郵便局舎は、昭和モダニズムを代表する歴史建築として知られていた5階層のビルで、その2・3階部をミュージアム・スペースとして改装し、誕生したのが「インターメディアテク」(IMT)です。この呼び名は、各種の表現メディアを架橋することで新しい文化の創造につなげる「間メディア実験館」に由来します。その活動の舞台となるのは、東京大学が1877（明治10）年の開学以来蓄積してきた学術標本や研究資料など、「学術文化財」と呼ばれるものの常設展示です。歴史的な遺産を、現代の都市空間のなかで再生させるデザイン技術は、「インターメディアテク」の展示の見所のひとつです。特別展示やイベントでは、大学に

おける最先端科学の成果や各種表現メディアにおけるユニークな創造を、常設展示の世界観と融合させながら、随時公開します。この施設では、大学の主導する教育研究活動の一環として、これまでにない複合教育プログラムを実践するとともに、教育研究の成果を広く伝えるための、オリジナルグッズの開発販売もあわせておこないます。　JP Tower Museum INTERMEDIATHEQUE Official Page／／／The Intermediatheque is an admission-free public facility jointly operated by Japan Post Co. In the former Tokyo Central Post Office, a five-storied historical building representative of Showa modernism architecture, the second and third floors were renovated as a museum space to give birth to the Intermediatheque (IMT). As indicated by its name, this is a facility dedicated to interdisciplinary experimentation venturing into cultural creation of a new kind based on the fusion of every means of expression. The platform of such an activity is the permanent exhibition of the scientific and cultural heritage accumulated by the University of Tokyo since its foundation in 1877. The design policy conducting the revival of this historical heritage within the contemporary urban cityscape is one of the highlights of the exhibition. Special exhibitions and events will also present the fruits of contemporary scientific research and artistic expression in harmony with the permanent exhibition. The Intermediatheque’s unique activities also include an original comprehensive education program, as well as a boutique presenting original goods emanating from the museum’s activities.

記念イベント『砂の時層 – Strata Chronica』

　2013年3月21日、さまざまなメディアを架橋し、それをとおして学術文化の新たな発信拠点となることを目指して、インターメディアテクは開館しました。以来、13年をへて、2026年4月18日、この独創的な施設の入館者数は累積500万人を超えました。
　これを記念し、来館者参加型の創作イベントを行います。本イベントは、東京大学の研究者が関係各所で採取してきた砂サンプルを用いて、『砂の時層』を作り出す試みです。訪れた人々とその時間を砂に託し、大学での研究に使う大形ガラス瓶の中に積み上げていただきます。砂は時の象徴であるだけでなく、今回は来館者と当館を繋ぐメディアとしてもふるまいます。瓶が砂で満ちたら、常設展示し、インターメディアテクのマイルストーンの一つとして将来に伝えていく所存です。

Celebration Event “Strata Chronica – Sand Layers of Time”

Intermediatheque opened its doors on March 21, 2013, innovatively bridging various forms of media with the aim of becoming a hub for the dissemination of academic and cultural information. On April 18, 2026, thirteen years after its inauguration, the cumulative number of visitors to this unique facility surpassed the 5 million mark.
To celebrate this significant milestone with everyone, we will launch a collaborative creative event. The “Strata Chronica – Sand Layers of Time” invites visitors to help create a symbolic installation using sand samples collected from various locations by researcher of the University of Tokyo. We invite you to entrust your time and presence to the sand as you layer it into large glass jars previously used for university experiments. In this context, sand is not only a symbol of time, but it also serves as a medium connecting our visitors with the museum. Once the jars are filled, they will be placed on permanent display at the Intermediatheque in commemoration of this milestone, preserved for future generations.

【館外】特別展示『植物顔 – 小石川植物園の花木』

　2025年4月、フィリピン・マニラを拠点に活動する写真家ジャン・マヨが、東京大学総合研究博物館とフィリピン国立博物館との国際協働の一環として、東京大学大学院理学系研究科附属植物園（小石川植物園）に生育する日本の在来植物を用い、「Faces and Flora」シリーズ第二弾となる日本版を撮影した。本シリーズは、植物で顔を飾ったモデルのポートレート写真と、植物そのものの静物写真からなる。これらの撮り下ろし作品は、第一弾（フィリピン版）とともに、対応する植物標本と組み合わせた展示構成により、特別展示『植物顔 – 日本・フィリピンの草木花実写真』（2025）としてインターメディアテクにおいて公開された。
　本企画では、マヨが撮影を行った小石川植物園内において、その内容を再構成し、野外展示として紹介する。来園者は、実際に植物が生育する環境のなかで、写真作品パネルと、それに対応する東京大学植物標本室（TI）所蔵のおし葉標本の写真パネルを観察・鑑賞し、これらを手がかりに園内の生きた植物にも目を向けることで、在来植物の多様な姿に触れることができる。
　本展示は、日本の在来植物への関心を喚起するとともに、日本・フィリピン友好年（国交正常化70周年）を記念するイベントとして、日比両国による国際協働の成果を広く伝えることを目的としている。また、東京大学総合研究博物館が展開する「モバイルミュージアム」プロジェクトの一環として、大学の研究成果を社会にひらく試みでもある。

Special Exhibition “Faces and Flora – Japan’s Native Tree Photography at Koishikawa Botanical Garden”

In April 2025, Manila-based photographer Jan Zoilo Rafael Mayo created the Japan edition of his Faces and Flora series, using Japan’s native plants growing at the Koishikawa Botanical Garden (Botanical Gardens, Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo). This project was developed as part of an international collaboration between The University Museum, The University of Tokyo (UMUT), and the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP).
The series consists of portrait photographs of models adorned with plants, alongside still-life photographs of the plants themselves. These newly produced works, together with those from the first edition (the Philippines edition), were presented in combination with corresponding herbarium specimens in the special exhibition “Faces and Flora – Philippines and Japan Native Plant Photography” (2025) at the Intermediatheque.
This outdoor exhibition reconfigures that presentation within the Koishikawa Botanical Garden, where the photographs were originally taken. Installed within a living botanical environment, the exhibition brings together photographic panels and images of herbarium specimens from the Herbarium of the University of Tokyo (TI). Visitors are invited to observe and appreciate these materials, and to extend their attention to the living plants in the garden, encountering the diverse forms of native flora.
The exhibition aims to foster interest in native plants of Japan while presenting the outcomes of international collaboration, and forms part of the commemorative events for the 70th Anniversary of the Normalization of Diplomatic Relations between the Philippines and Japan. It also contributes to UMUT’s “Mobilemuseum” project, which seeks to share university-based research with the wider public.

　この度、日本郵便株式会社と東京大学総合研究博物館との協働事業となるＪＰタワー学術文化総合ミュージアム「インターメディアテク」は、千代田ミュージアムネットワークに加盟する施設として、地域連携と社会貢献活動により本事業を実施する運びとなりました。

　「モバイルミュージアム」とは、元・総合研究博物館館長の西野嘉章の創案になる次世代型ミュージアムの展開です。その趣旨は、既存の概念・制度・建物のなかに自閉し、未来への展望を持ち得ずにいるミュージアム事業に、内から外へ、集中備蓄からネットワーク遊動へ、施設建物から市民社会へという、より機動的で、より効率的な事業モデルの可能性を、社会に提案することにあります。 展示コンテンツがコンパクト・パッケージ化され、学校、住宅、企業、公共施設に中長期にわたって貸し出される。 これら非ミュージアム的空間内に仮設された展示ユニットは、周囲の空間をテンポラリーなミュージアム空間に変容させます。 展示ユニットは一定の期間が過ぎると、次の場所に移動する。この流れをローテーション化すると、「モバイルミュージアム」の遊動様態がつねに現在進行形のかたちで維持されることになります。 ミュージアム・コンテンツをより身近なものとすることで、感覚的美意識や学術的好奇心に働きかけ、日常空間を文化的な香りあるものに変容させる、その付加価値を幅広い社会層に享受できるものとするための文化的ツールです。
　明治10（1877）年に創学された東京大学は、当初、東京・神田区一ツ橋（現在の千代田区一ツ橋）にありました。草創期の東京大学にて、西洋の近代的な学問の導入に寄与したお雇い外国人教授の一人で、初代動物学教授を務めたアメリカ人動物学者のエドワード・シルヴェスター・モース（1838‒1925）は、大学には付属の博物館が必要であると提言し、明治13（1880）年に日本第一号の大学博物館である理学部博物場が設置されたことにより、千代田区が日本の大学博物館誕生の地となります。

特別公開『JP IN CONSTRUCTION - 旧東京中央郵便局からインターメディアテクまで』

　本展示は、インターメディアテクが開館した2013年に初回の特別展示として行った「IMT in Construction - インターメディアテク建設」を再編集したものである。今回は1929年から1931年の竣工に至る旧東京中央郵便局の建設記録写真帖から新規にプリントしたもの、および2010年から2013年にかけて再開発がなされ、現在の姿に至るまでの建設記録からインターメディアテクを中心に紹介する写真展となる。

　1923年9月1日に発生した関東大震災は東京府を中心とした都市に壊滅的な被害をもたらした。その震災復興と近代化を目指した時代を背景に、1929年（昭和4年）東京中央郵便局の建設が始まる。設計者は逓信省営繕課の技師であった吉田鉄郎である。吉田の自身の建築美学による、白いタイルの外壁に黒の窓枠をグリッド上に配した近代モダニズムの象徴といえるこの建造物は、のちに国内外から高い評価を得ることとなった。
　周辺に残るバラックや風情のある東京駅を背にしたとき、その洗練されたデザインは、ことのほか際立って見える。それとともに、工業生産化がまだ未熟であった昭和初期において、巨大建築と対峙する職人たちの技をも垣間見ることができる。それは現在のインターメディアテクが醸し出すレトロモダンへと引き継がれた、時代と空間の融合である。

JP IN CONSTRUCTION

This exhibition is a re-edited version of the “IMT in Construction”, the inaugural special exhibition held by Intermediatheque upon its opening in 2013. This exhibition features newly printed photographs from the construction record album of the former Tokyo Central Post Office, which was built between 1929 and 1931, as well as photographs focusing on Intermediatheque, drawn from the construction records documenting the redevelopment of the former Tokyo Central Post Office from 2010 to 2013 and its evolution into its current form as the JP Tower.

The Great Kanto Earthquake, which struck on September 1, 1923, caused catastrophic damage to the cities centered around Tokyo Prefecture. Against the backdrop of an era focused on post-earthquake reconstruction and modernization, the construction of the Tokyo Central Post Office began in 1929 with Tetsuro Yoshida, an engineer in the Maintenance Division of the Ministry of Communications, as the architect. Reflecting Yoshida’s own architectural aesthetic, this building―with its white-tiled exterior and black window frames arranged in a grid pattern―can be considered a symbol of modernism and would later earn high acclaim both domestically and internationally.
Set against the backdrop of the remaining shanty towns in the vicinity and the charming Tokyo Station, its refined design stands out remarkably. At the same time, it offers a glimpse into the craftsmanship of the artisans who worked on this massive structure during the early Showa period, when industrial production was still in its infancy. This fusion of era and space has been passed down to the retro-modern atmosphere now exuded by Intermediatheque.

　この度、インターメディアテクでは「東京･春･⾳楽祭」のプログラムのひとつである無料のミニコンサート「桜の街の⾳楽会」を昨年に続き開催します。
「東京･春･⾳楽祭」は、2005 年から開始した「東京のオペラの森」を前⾝として、第5 回⽬の2009 年より「東京･春･⾳楽祭」として新たな幕開けをしました。東京⽂化会館での「ワーグナー･シリーズ」や、オーケストラ公演、国内外で活躍する⼀流アーティストによる公演をはじめ、上野公園内の美術館、博物館を会場とした「ミュージアム･コンサート」など、様々なコンサートを⾏っていて、今年で第22回⽬を迎えるクラシック⾳楽の祭典です。

This year, Intermediatheque will once again host the “Concerts in Harmony with Cherry Blossoms”, a free mini-concert as part of the “Tokyo Spring Music Festival” program.
The “Tokyo Spring Music Festival” traces its origins to “Tokyo’s Opera Forest”, which began in 2005, and in 2009, marking its fifth edition, launched into a new chapter as the “Tokyo Spring Music Festival”. This classical music festival, now in its 22nd year, features a wide variety of concerts, including the “Wagner Series” at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, orchestral performances, and concerts by top-tier artists who are active both domestically and internationally, as well as the “Museum Concerts” which are held in the art galleries and museums within Ueno Park.

This lecture is organized by the research project “"Mathematical Prehistory of Homo sapiens -Modeling the Cultural Evolution during the Range Expansion of Paleolithic Modern Humans", which has been collaborated by the University Museum, The University of Tokyo and other institutes. A lecturer engaged in fieldwork in northern Africa—the cradle of Homo sapiens —will present recent archaeological excavations and explore the evolution and behavior of early Homo sapiens .

カンパニー・グランデ『春の祭典』特別企画展示「春、音と影のあわいに」
日時：2026年1月27日（水）- 2月15日（日）
会場：彩の国さいたま芸術劇場 光の庭

　彩の国さいたま芸術劇場 芸術監督の近藤良平が2024年に立ち上げたカンパニー・グランデ。2 年間の集大成として上演する『春の祭典』公演にあわせて、劇場のオープンスペース「光の庭」で企画展を開催します。
　カンパニー・グランデの講師でもあり東京大学総合研究博物館 准教授の森洋久のキュレーションにより、『春の祭典』から着想を得てセレクトされた東京大学総合研究博物館の所蔵品を、奄美大島で採取したサウンドスケープとともに劇場に展開。差し込む光が刻一刻と変化する光の庭を舞台に、うつろう「影」と遥かな離島の「サウンド」が呼応する特別な空間をお楽しみください。
