Deep in the forests of Niseko, the flow of time quietly comes undone.
SHIGUCHI is not a place to stay. It is a place where nature, architecture, art, fire, hot spring, and silence return the senses to where they belong.
This world was shaped by Shouya Grigg, who left the UK for Hokkaido and has spent more than thirty years in conversation with this land. He does not call SHIGUCHI a hotel. He calls it a place where nature, culture, and people reconnect, deeply.
A house built from kominka timber that has weathered 150 years and more. The old Japanese craft of shiguchi: joining wood without a single nail. The sound of trees moving in the wind. A hot spring facing Mount Yotei. The memory and art of Hokkaido, flowing through SOMOZA.
Here, the need to do something quietly disappears.

ニセコの森の奥。気づけば、時間の流れが静かにほどけている。SHIGUCHIは、ただ泊まる場所ではない。自然、建築、アート、火、湯、静寂——そのすべてが、感覚をゆっくりと本来の位置へ戻していく場所。この世界をつくったのは、Shouya Grigg。英国から北海道へ渡り、30年以上この土地と向き合い続けてきた彼は、SHIGUCHIを「ホテル」とは呼ばない。“自然と文化、そして人が再び深くつながるための場所” と語る。 150年の時を重ねた古民家。釘を使わず木を繋ぐ、日本古来の“仕口”の思想。風に揺れる木々の音。羊蹄山を望む湯。SOMOZAに流れる、北海道の記憶と芸術。そこにいると、不思議と「何かをする必要」が消えていく。便利さではなく、余白。豪華さではなく、静けさ。刺激ではなく、深呼吸。SHIGUCHIには、現代が置き忘れてしまった時間が流れている。そして帰る頃には、旅の記憶というより、“自分を取り戻した感覚”だけが、静かに残っている。
