VAP Venice Art Projects is an art start up stemming from an idea of Edoardo Cimadori, contemporary art project manager and producer working in Belgium and Italy. VAP is a no-profit organisation operating in Venice that sets out to present and promote artists, contemporary art, design and performative arts. VAP is a platform open to artistic projects, a multiple concept space with several exhibitio
n spaces all set in the charming Sestiere Castello in Venice. The VAP exhibition spaces typically operate on a bimonthly schedule inviting artists or curators to develop their personal projects. All initiatives are supported by private funding, artist grants, or special sales. Special events and special night openings are also part of VAP’s programme that integrates with the City of Venice local events for the promotion of the territory. VAP opens this year during the 57th Venice Biennale, an occasion that provides artists the opportunity to give their work international visibility and work with other artists of different ages and nationalities. During its first season, VAP opens its locations in four periods: May–June, September–October, and November–December, and during each period will present works by different artists and selected student/artists from the Fine Art Academy of Venice.

Hakawati Retold - Reconstruction by Narrative - Jasmine A. Abu Hamdan
Hakawati in Arabic is a market story-teller. Citing Aleppo as a recent case of lost heritage, Hakawati Retold focuses on using intangible media to construct events that condense and overlay spatial narratives onto new contemporary contexts. The event is built around an augmented soundscape that revives the lost Aleppo Souq, bringing about different voices and building new pathways for the retelling of stories.

Troubled Waters - Jacopo Marco Zanessi
Linked by the common element of water, and its different states, but also human actions and their impact, these two projects tell specific yet terribly universal stories. In this sense, Troubled Waters aims to be an immersive experience, forcing the audience to reflect on space and time, past and future, landscape and cityscape. Through a very intuitive and perceptive lens, Jacopo Zanessi portrays the story of his city, while unfolding ours.

Life After Still Life

“In the traditions of 'Western' science and politics – the tradition of racist, male-dominant capitalism; the tradition of progress; the tradition of the appropriation of nature as resource for the productions of culture; the tradition of reproduction of the self from the reflections of the other – the relation between organism and machine has been a border war. The stakes in the border war have been the territories of production, reproduction, and imagination.”
– Donna Haraway

Off Axis - Gabriele Adomaityté for Philip Rosenberger and Zakaria Rugs
The combination of art with the skills of traditional craftsmen is the essence of Zakaria Rugs, which opposes the unsustainable mass-production that has become normalized in our fast-paced world.
Adomaitytė is the designer behind the ‘Off Axis’ rug — one of the six rugs of the Zakaria Rugs current award winning collection. 'Off Axis' is derived from a series of related scans of a hand, copied time and again, resulting in a sequence of mutating organisms. Its design originated in a time when the Adomaitytė focused on the semiotics of medical scans and x- rays. In this work, the scientific methods of processing visual data are carefully balanced with the delicate softness andintimacy of the human body.
