Opening this week!

Venerdì 4 settembre (18-20h), la galleria 10 & zero uno | Contemporary Art inaugura CHap(ə)l, mostra personale di Austin accompagnata da un testo di Lucia Longhi.

Attraverso scultura, disegno e interventi su materiali preesistenti, la mostra riflette sulle forme del potere e sui meccanismi attraverso cui vengono costruite identità, geografie e narrazioni storiche.

Partendo dal contesto mediterraneo, Camilleri affronta le eredità del potere coloniale, il controllo della libertà e dell’identità e la costruzione di cartografie distorte. In mostra, lavori dalle serie Passport Series e Ghost Trip Series, insieme a una nuova opera, A Riva, realizzata per lo spazio della galleria.

On Friday, September 4 (6-8pm), 10 & zero uno | Contemporary Art gallery opens CHap(ə)l, a solo exhibition by Austin, accompanied by a text by Lucia Longhi.

Through sculpture, drawing and interventions on pre-existing materials, the exhibition reflects on forms of power and the mechanisms through which identities, geographies and historical narratives are constructed.

Rooted in the Mediterranean context, Camilleri’s work addresses the legacies of colonial power, the control of freedom and identity, and the construction of distorted cartographies. The exhibition brings together works from the Passport Series and Ghost Trip Series, alongside A Riva, a new work presented in the gallery space.

Fino al 22 novembre da Beatrice Burati Anderson (Beatrice Burati Anderson), “ALBEDO – You see me in the twilight” di Giovanni Ozzola (Giovanni Ozzola) si sviluppa tra i due spazi veneziani della galleria affacciati sul Rio de la Madoneta, collegati da un attraversamento in barca che trasforma il canale in una soglia attiva della mostra.

Realizzato con Galleria Continua (GALLERIA CONTINUA) e curato da Giorgio Galotti (Giorgio Galotti) e Qilan Shen (Qilan Shen), il progetto riunisce una nuova installazione video e una serie di fotografie inedite. Attraverso immagini, luce, silenzio e orientamento, Ozzola costruisce un percorso sospeso tra spazio interiore e paesaggio reale, visibile e invisibile.

Until November 22 at Beatrice Burati Anderson (Beatrice Burati Anderson), Giovanni Ozzola (Giovanni Ozzola)’s “ALBEDO – You see me in the twilight” unfolds across the gallery’s two spaces in Venice facing one another over the Rio de la Madoneta. A boat crossing connects them, transforming the canal into an active threshold within the exhibition.

Presented with Galleria Continua (GALLERIA CONTINUA) and curated by Giorgio Galotti (Giorgio Galotti) and Qilan Shen (Qilan Shen), the project brings together a new video installation and a series of previously unseen photographs. Through image, light, silence and orientation, Ozzola creates a journey suspended between inner space and the physical landscape, the visible and the unseen.

Alla Galerie Negropontes (Galerie Negropontes) di Venezia, la mostra “Reflections on Brancusi” prosegue il ciclo espositivo avviato nella sede di Parigi della galleria e celebra l’eredità del maestro attraverso lo sguardo di artisti contemporanei, rivelando la persistenza di un linguaggio fatto di forma, materia e spazio. In dialogo con l’architettura di Carlo Scarpa della Palazzina Masieri, le opere danno vita a un percorso in cui il pensiero brancusiano si rinnova e risuona nel presente.

At Galerie Negropontes (Galerie Negropontes) in Venice, “Reflections on Brancusi” continues the exhibitions cycle initiated at the gallery space in Paris and celebrates the legacy of the master through the lens of contemporary artists, revealing the enduring presence of a language rooted in form, matter, and space. In dialogue with Carlo Scarpa’s architecture at the Palazzina Masieri, the works unfold a journey in which Brancusi’s thought is renewed and resonates in the present.

47 anni fa, apriva a Venezia Ikona Gallery (Živa Kraus).

Fondata il 28 luglio 1979 da Živa Kraus, inizialmente presso il Ponte di San Moisè, Ikona è diventata un punto di riferimento per la fotografia e la cultura visiva a Venezia, presentando nel corso della sua storia il lavoro di figure come Berenice Abbott, Robert Doisneau, William Klein, Helen Levitt, Helmut Newton, Paolo Monti, Gianni Berengo Gardin e Ferdinando Scianna.

Dal 1989 Ikona Venezia è anche Scuola Internazionale di Fotografia e, dopo aver realizzato progetti in numerose sedi della città, dal 2003 ha trovato casa in Campo del Ghetto Nuovo.

47 years ago, Ikona Gallery (Živa Kraus) opened in Venice.

Founded on July 28, 1979 by artist and gallerist Živa Kraus, initially near Ponte di San Moisè, Ikona has become a landmark for photography and visual culture in Venice. Throughout its history, the gallery has presented the work of figures including Berenice Abbott, Robert Doisneau, William Klein, Helen Levitt, Helmut Newton, Paolo Monti, Gianni Berengo Gardin and Ferdinando Scianna.

Since 1989, Ikona Venezia has also operated as an International School of Photography. After developing projects across numerous venues in the city, in 2003 it established its permanent home in Campo del Ghetto Nuovo.

Fino al 29 agosto, Galleria Michela Rizzo (Galleria Michela Rizzo) a Venezia presenta “L’Esperimento del Tempo”, una mostra personale di Fabio Mauri (Fabio Mauri) accompagnata dal testo curatoriale di Ivan Barlafante (Ivan Barlafante )

Tra i protagonisti dell’avanguardia italiana del secondo dopoguerra, Mauri (Roma, 1926–2009) ha sviluppato una pratica che attraversa pittura, disegno, scultura, installazione, performance, teatro e teoria, interrogando il rapporto tra individuo, storia, memoria e ideologia.

Riunendo opere appartenenti a diverse fasi della sua ricerca, la mostra esplora la concezione del tempo nell’opera dell’artista: non come successione lineare, ma come presente sincronico in cui realtà, memoria, immanenza e trascendenza convivono.

Until August 29, Galleria Michela Rizzo (Galleria Michela Rizzo) in Venice presents “L’Esperimento del Tempo” (“The Experiment of Time”), a solo exhibition by Fabio Mauri (Fabio Mauri), accompanied by a curatorial text by Ivan Barlafante (Ivan Barlafante).

A leading figure of the postwar Italian avant-garde, Mauri (Rome, 1926–2009) developed a practice spanning painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, performance, theatre and theory, examining the relationship between the individual, history, memory and ideology.

Bringing together works from different periods of Mauri’s practice, the exhibition explores the artist’s conception of time: not as a linear progression, but as a synchronous present in which reality, memory, immanence and transcendence coexist.

Siete i benvenuti domani da Victoria Miro (Victoria Miro), Venezia, per celebrare l’inaugurazione di Wangechi Mutu: “The SeasSpirit”. Sabato 18 luglio dalle 17:00 alle 19:00.

Per questa serie, Mutu (Wangechi Mutu) evoca un gruppo di spiriti femminili acquatici: figure al tempo stesso potenti, affascinanti e inquietanti. Concepiti come protettori, compagni e guide, questi esseri acquatici possono essere interpretati come abitanti simbolici tanto del mare quanto del subconscio.

Join us tomorrow at Victoria Miro (Victoria Miro), Venice, to celebrate the opening of Wangechi Mutu: “The SeasSpirit”. On Saturday 18 July, from 5–7 pm. All are welcome.

In a new series of collage-paintings, Mutu (Wangechi Mutu) conjures a cast of feminine water spirits – figures that are at once powerful, awe-inspiring and unsettling. Imagined as protectors, companions and guides, these aquatic beings can be understood as symbolic inhabitants of both the sea and the subconscious.

Fino al 15 agosto, Patricia Low Contemporary (Patricia Low Contemporary) a Venezia presenta “The Belt of Venus”, una mostra personale di Daniel Crews-Chubb (Daniel Crews-Chubb).

Crews-Chubb (n. 1984) è un pittore con base a Londra, le cui opere a tecnica mista si confrontano con la condizione umana e con le diverse forme di espressione del sé. I suoi dipinti rendono omaggio all’Espressionismo Astratto, sia attraverso una figurazione gestuale che guarda a Willem de Kooning, sia mediante un uso giocoso e improvvisato del collage, che richiama la qualità tridimensionale della pratica di Robert Rauschenberg.

La mostra “The Belt of Venus” riunisce sei nuovi dipinti monumentali. Il titolo deriva dal fenomeno atmosferico visibile poco prima dell’alba o subito dopo il tramonto: un’eterea fascia rosata che separa l’ombra scura della Terra dal cielo che si illumina.

Until August 15, Patricia Low Contemporary (Patricia Low Contemporary) in Venice presents “The Belt of Venus,” a solo exhibition by Daniel Crews-Chubb (Daniel Crews-Chubb).

Crews-Chubb (b. 1984) is a London-based painter whose mixed-media works wrestle with the human condition and modes of self-expression. His paintings pay homage to Abstract Expressionism, both in their gestural figuration that looks to Willem de Kooning and playful, improvisational use of collage, which recalls the three-dimensional quality of Robert Rauschenberg’s practice.

His exhibition ‘The Belt of Venus’ brings together six new, monumental paintings. The exhibition takes its title from the atmospheric phenomenon visible shortly before sunrise or after sunset, an ethereal pinkish band that separates the earth’s dark shadow from the brightening sky.

193 Gallery (193 Gallery) presents “The Road”, the first solo exhibition in Venice by Sesse Elangwe (Sesse elangwe), on view until September 12.

Born in 1994 in Cameroon and currently living in San Antonio, Texas, Elangwe develops a painting practice centered on the human figure as a space of political, social, and emotional awareness. In his work, the enlarged, fixed, and intensely attentive eyes become a space of vigilance and resistance: his figures do not simply submit themselves to observation but instead return the viewer’s gaze, calling for a form of active attention.

193 Gallery (193 Gallery) presenta “The Road”, la prima mostra personale a Venezia di Sesse Elangwe (Sesse elangwe), visitabile fino al 12 settembre.

Nato nel 1994 in Camerun e attualmente residente a San Antonio, Texas, Elangwe sviluppa una pratica pittorica incentrata sulla figura umana come spazio di consapevolezza politica, sociale ed emotiva. Nelle sue opere, gli occhi ingranditi, fissi e intensamente vigili diventano uno spazio di attenzione e resistenza: le sue figure non si limitano a offrirsi a chi le osserva, ma restituiscono lo sguardo allo spettatore, richiamandolo a una forma di attenzione attiva.
