We are delighted to welcome ๐“๐จ๐ฆ ๐‡๐ž๐ ๐ž๐ง to Nous Art Gallery and to announce the beginning of our collaboration with one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary aerial photography.

Based in Munich, German photographer and designer Tom Hegen explores the complex relationship between humans and nature by observing our planet from above.

Through aerial photography, Hegen documents landscapes profoundly transformed by human intervention. Mines, salt fields, industrial sites, airports and agricultural territories become unexpected compositions of colour, texture and geometry, revealing structures and traces that often remain invisible from the ground.

At first sight, his photographs appear almost abstract, extraordinarily beautiful landscapes whose scale and origin can be difficult to decipher. Only gradually does their true nature emerge.

This tension between beauty and awareness lies at the heart of Hegenโ€™s research, inviting us to step back, see the bigger picture and reconsider our relationship with the planet we inhabit.

His work has received numerous international awards and distinctions, including the Red Dot Design Award: Best of the Best, International Photography Awards, German Design Award and ADC Gold. In 2021, he was shortlisted for the prestigious Leica Oskar Barnack Award.

We are proud to introduce Tom Hegenโ€™s work in San Gimignano and to begin this new collaboration at Nous Art Gallery.

We are delighted to open the doors of the new Nous Art Gallery, located at 97 Via San Matteo, within a historic wing of Palazzo Buonaccorsi, a remarkable building whose origins date back to the 13th century and which, throughout its history, has also been connected to the ancient Palazzo Pesciolini, one of San Gimignano's most distinguished noble residences.

A place that has witnessed centuries of history now begins a new life through contemporary art, where painting and sculpture engage in a dialogue with natural light, medieval vaults, and the timeless atmosphere of this extraordinary building.

Every artwork tells a story. From today, this place tells a new one as well.

We look forward to welcoming you and sharing this new journey with you.

TERREHUMAINE
The Nature That Lives Within Us

Every human being carries a landscape within.

With TerreHumaine, Italian sculptor Monica Mariniello explores the profound and invisible bond that connects humanity to the natural world. Her figures seem to emerge from the earth itself, where branches, dried flowers and botanical elements grow organically from the material, dissolving the boundary between the human figure and the landscape.

Born in Siena and trained at the ร‰cole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Mariniello has developed an artistic practice rooted in the Tuscan landscape, the legacy of Etruscan civilisation and a close observation of the botanical world. Through sculpture, she creates spaces for contemplation, inviting us to rediscover our place within nature rather than apart from it.

The TerreHumaine series unfolds through both polychrome terracotta and patinated bronze. While the terracotta preserves the vitality of the artist's gesture through layered surfaces and natural pigments, the bronze expresses the same poetic vision with timeless strength and quiet delicacy.

Each sculpture is entirely handcrafted, embodying a deeply personal dialogue between humanity, memory and the living world.

Crafted in ceramic, Terrehumaine 7 beautifully embodies the artistic vision of Monica Mariniello, whose work explores the profound relationship between humanity and nature.

Rather than simply depicting the human figure, Mariniello's sculptures speak of the earth as a place of origin, memory, and transformation. Her figures merge with botanical elementsโ€”roots, seeds, and ears of grainโ€”creating a poetic visual language in which clay becomes emotion and sculpture becomes storytelling.

In Terrehumaine 7, the body curls into an intimate, protective gesture while ears of grain emerge from the back, symbolizing rebirth, fertility, and our enduring connection to the natural world. The result is a deeply evocative work that invites us to reflect on our roots, the passage of time, and the fragile balance between humanity and nature.

We are delighted to announce that Terrehumaine 7 has found its new home.

Our sincere thanks to the collector for their trust, and to Monica Mariniello for continuing to create works that move us through the expressive power of ceramic and the depth of her artistic research.

Monica Mariniello's works are available at Nous Art Gallery, San Gimignano.

The cover shown here belongs to our previous edition โ€” the new one is taking shape.

The catalogue will be available soon, both online and in print.

The floor, walls, and pedestals of Nous Art Gallery are finished with La Calce del Brenta (Brenta Lime), a completely natural material whose origin lies in the balanced action of the four elementsโ€”earth, water, air, and fireโ€”harmoniously combined through time-honored craftsmanship. This elemental process gives rise to surfaces of exceptional quality, defined by refined textures and an authentic material depth that resonates with the surrounding architecture.

All materials selected by Nous Art Gallery to shape its interior reflect the same curatorial approach that guides the choice of artworks. Natural, carefully researched elements are chosen to preserve and enhance the historic fabric of San Gimignano, a UNESCO World Heritage site, respecting the integrity, breathability, and material character of its traditional architecture.

Through this coherence between space and exhibition, Nous creates an environment where art, architecture, and matter exist in equilibrium. The interior becomes an extension of the galleryโ€™s artistic visionโ€”an essential, timeless setting that deepens the sensory and contemplative experience of art.
