Thought it will be the perfect moment to share my favorite coin type on my 29th birthday, a tetradrachm from the kingdom of Thrace, issued under Lysimachos, who was once Alexander’s general.
This photo was taken a few months ago, when I brought Alexander to the Pacific coast, the far eastern edge of Eurasia.
Alexander has been an inspiration for countless people across thousands of years (me included🤣), and owning a coin with his image on it, engraved by the best die engravers of Pergamon, still felt surreal. Despite being a worn specimen, I still enjoy the aesthetics of the fine style portrait from certain mints. (This coin type deserves some proper intro but I’ll be doing it in a future post)
One of the best gifts I had was being able to discover collecting ancients, which I’m pretty sure will be my lifelong hobby. And with the limited info in my country, if not for the wonderful global community, I wouldn’t be able to go this far, let alone holding my favorite coin type in hand.
I wish every fellow friends a wonderful year, and good luck on collecting!!!
