Today, Saturday 29 June, MONTORO12 Gallery and 12 other contemporary art spaces in Forest/Vorst are coming together for a day of exploration and (re)discovery on and around Avenue Van Volxem! With a single ticket, discover over 15 exhibitions, performances, and join multiple guided walks in the neighbourhood, known for its vibrant contemporary art scene, with your friends and family.
At MONTORO12 you’ll see the current exhibitions, and you can enjoy a very special program in our courtyard: we invited three local heroes to present the finest of their record collection, in a “block party” atmosphere!
With a decade of radio experience in Belgium and Portugal, RUE14N14, a non-binary radio maker, curator, photographer and co-founder of Table Sports Records, specialises in promoting Lusophone music, particularly highlighting the contributions of q***r and POC Lusophone artists, as well as focusing on ambient, folk and other gems outside of the dance realm.
DJ Pavé / Lexi Disques is a maverick label based in Brussels since 2008 that explores the rich possibilities of the 7-inch record single. A welcoming home for experimental and adventurous musicians of diverse backgrounds, from fresh and vibrant faces to underground heroes, dwelling between the misty fields of psych-pop to the straight (and not so straight) roads of electronics.
Born of a Belgian mother and Moroccan father, Monstera Occulta’s musical journey has been shaped by timeless legends such as Nass El Ghiwane and Oum Kalthoum, creating a deep connection with the musical traditions of the Arab world. It is in this rich and varied sonic canvas that Monstera Occulta navigates today, oscillating between the nostalgia of the great Lebanese singers like Fairuz and the haunting psychedelic sounds of Baba Zula. Her passion extends beyond musical boundaries, from the intoxicating rhythms of belly dance to the unique vocal heritage of Yma Sumac, which she collects with devotion. But Monstera Occulta’s musical universe is not limited to traditions. As an avid vinyl collector, she also explores the fringes of post-punk and black metal, adding an eclectic touch to her repertoire.
