Il 4 settembre 1949 nasceva ufficialmente la Centomiglia del Lario, la gara che trasformò il nostro lago nella Maranello dell’acqua.

Dal 1982, il Museo Barca Lariana custodisce gli scafi, i motori e i primati di questa competizione unica.

On September 4, 1949, the Centomiglia del Lario was officially launched: the race that transformed our lake into the “Maranello of the lake.”

Since 1982, the Museo Barca Lariana has preserved the hulls, engines, and records of this unique competition.

Dal 9 al 19 settembre, nei meravigliosi giardini di Villa d’Este, il Museo Barca Lariana, in collaborazione con ASDEC, espone ben 9 scafi straordinari, tra cui spiccano per l’appunto il Lara Torriggia dei Cantieri Cetti e lo scafo Golden di Abbate.

Vi sveleremo altre storie favolose legate ai nove scafi esposti, e vi ricordiamo l’appuntamento del 12 settembre con il Villa d’Este Style Vintage Yachting.
From September 9th to 19th, in the magnificent gardens of Villa d’Este, the Museo Barca Lariana, in collaboration with ASDEC, will be exhibiting no fewer than nine extraordinary boats.

Among them, two true standouts are the Lara Torriggia, built by Cantiere Cetti, and the Golden, built by Abbate.

We’ll be revealing more fascinating stories behind each of the nine boats on display. And don’t forget the special appointment on September 12th with Villa d’Este Style Vintage Yachting.

On World Lakes Day, we celebrate our region with 5 facts: from its Roman origins to Star Wars filming locations, and the inventions that braved its depths.

Card 2: “Lario” is its 2,000-year-old Roman name. The name “Lake Como” became popular in the Middle Ages.
Card 3: Italy’s deepest lake (over 410m). In 1948, the C3 submarine reached -412m right here!
Card 4: 3 branches, 1 outlet (the Adda river).
Card 5: The Lariosaurus was a real prehistoric reptile discovered in 1830.

Runabout Vidoli del 1933, Lara dei Cantieri Torriggia, un Three Points con motore Mazda e un Three Points Popoli con motore Alfa. Sono solo quattro dei nove gioielli che il Museo Barca Lariana esporrà a Villa d’Este in occasione di Villa d’Este Style – Vintage Yachting, l’evento organizzato in collaborazione con ASDEC - Associazione Scafi Epoca e Classici ETS/ASD ASDEC.

Imbarcazioni diverse per storia, costruzione e motorizzazione, accomunate da una stessa passione: quella per la motonautica d’epoca e per le linee, la tecnica e l’eleganza che hanno fatto la storia della nautica italiana.

Dai runabout in legno alle imbarcazioni da corsa, ogni esemplare racconta una storia fatta di competizioni, innovazione e passione. Nove barche, nove storie, riunite in uno scenario unico: il Lago di Como e Villa d’Este.

Un incontro tra patrimonio nautico e cultura del territorio, per celebrare ancora una volta il fascino senza tempo della motonautica d’epoca.

The 1933 Vidoli Runabout, Lara by Cantieri Torriggia, a Three Points powered by a Mazda engine, and a Three Points Popoli fitted with an Alfa engine are just four of the nine jewels that the Museo Barca Lariana will showcase at Villa d’Este for Villa d’Este Style – Vintage Yachting, an event organized in collaboration with ASDEC.

Different in history, construction and propulsion, these boats are united by the same passion: a love for vintage powerboating and for the lines, engineering and elegance that have shaped the history of Italian boating.

From wooden runabouts to racing boats, each vessel tells a story of competition, innovation and passion. Nine boats, nine stories, brought together in a unique setting: Lake Como and Villa d’Este.

A meeting of nautical heritage and local culture, celebrating once again the timeless charm of vintage powerboating.

Some flags are truly one of a kind.

They were painted by hand, in pure cotton, in extraordinary sizes and unusual shapes, works of art in their own right.

This is the royal flag of the Dukes of Saxe-Meiningen. Today it is kept at Museo Barca Lariana alongside other original elements of Villa Carlotta, and it will take pride of place in the new installation dedicated to its memory.

A symbol that still speaks of the bond between Lake Como, Venice and the European nobility.
