🌍Our Ancestors Tours continue…
🔎Last year, Matthew contacted us from the United States, sharing the story of his family’s roots in Padula. His great-grandfather, Antonio Caolo, emigrated to New York as a young man, where he married Luisa Di Benedetto, who was also originally from Padula.
👣Together with Matthew and his wife Jessica, we walked through the streets of the historic town center and the alleys of the Sant’Eligio neighbourhood, where the Caolo family once lived.
📜Our journey continued at the Town Hall and the church… Being able to see and hold a document connected to one of your own ancestors is always a truly special and moving experience.
That is the real beauty of our Ancestors Tours: travelling back in time, rediscovering the places that shaped our family history, and imagining what life was like back then — the everyday struggles and the circumstances that led so many of our fellow townspeople to leave their homeland.
🚂We chose to conclude the tour exactly where, in a way, it all began: at Padula’s now-disused railway station, from where people could travel to the port of Naples and set off for a new life across the ocean.
💗A heartfelt thank you to Matthew and Jessica for sharing this journey through the past with us, exploring places, memories, and family ties that continue to connect Padula to the world.
And thanks to the association Padula Sacra and the Padula Town Hall for their warm welcome.
