Man Ray: M for Dictionary
Opening: Friday, 10 April 2026; 6pm-9pm
11 April – 24 July 2026
Via Tadino 15, Milan

Fondazione Marconi and Gió Marconi are pleased to present Man Ray: M for Dictionary, a comprehensive survey
of Man Ray’s work across media, which takes his linguistic thought as its organising principle.
The exhibition, presented on the fiftieth anniversary of the artist’s death, is organised in collaboration with curator
and art historian Yuval Etgar and Deborah D’Ippolito.

One of the most celebrated photographers of the modern era, an original creator of objects and multiples, a
painter and a draftsperson, Man Ray was a multimedia artist in the true sense of the word. He was fascinated by
the transition from manual craftsmanship to mechanical reproduction and called for the merger of formal and
conceptual orders. But perhaps more than anything, the medium that underlined his entire artistic output was
language.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Franco Vaccari (1936–2025), a central and visionary figure in Italian art and conceptual research. Over the years, he collaborated closely with Studio Marconi and Fondazione Marconi, contributing to a shared history of research, exhibitions, and critical reflection.

Last two days to visit UGO MULAS. Ugo Mulas in città.
Curated by Alberto Salvadori
Until 20.12.2024.

During his stay, he photographed Louise Nevelson, her home, and her studio, producing an extraordinary reportage. Despite his limited English, Mulas felt at ease with the artist, capturing her essence, her image, and her actions within her domestic environment, the mythopoiesis that emerged, and her hieratic presence.

“‎But when I fell in love with black, it contained all color. It wasn’t a negation of color. It was an acceptance. Because black encompasses all colors. Black is the most aristocratic color of all.... You can be quiet and it contains the whole thing.”

In commemoration of Hsiao Chin’s passing 100 days ago, Fondazione Marconi is pleased to pay tribute to one of the leading Asian post-war artists.
As a co-founder of the Punto Movement (1961-1966) in Milan, Hsiao is known for his lyrical, almost meditative abstractions, which combine both the conceptual framework of American and European Modernism with the vocabulary of traditional Chinese brush painting.
For Hsiao, art has always been a path towards growth and knowledge as well as a spiritual journey through time and space, which transcends any geographical or cultural limits. In his paintings he is trying to reconcile yin and yang, strong and weak, dark and light.
The presentation will feature a selection of works from the end of the 1950s, the period in which Hsiao moved to Milan and began to exhibit regularly at Studio Marconi gallery.
