Al MAXXI L’Aquila fino al 20 settembre è in corso la mostra “Creature, Creatori. San Francesco e l’arte contemporanea”, a cura di Beatrice Buscaroli.
L’esposizione va oltre l’immagine iconografica di San Francesco per raccontarne il modo di guardare il mondo e il valore etico del suo pensiero. La sua visione, espressa nel Cantico delle Creature, diventa un punto di partenza per rileggere l’arte italiana dal secondo dopoguerra a oggi. Le opere della Collezione MAXXI, tra le quali un Achrome tela cucita a quadri di Piero Manzoni, dialogano con lavori affini per temi e linguaggi. Alcune opere sono create invece appositamente per l’occasione, interpretando lo sguardo francescano e unendo simboli, figure e natura in modo che la visione di San Francesco diventi una lente con cui rileggere l’arte italiana dal secondo Novecento a oggi.
At MAXXI L’Aquila, the exhibition “Creature, Creatori. San Francesco e l’arte contemporanea” (Creatures, Creators. Saint Francis and Contemporary Art), curated by Beatrice Buscaroli, is on display until September 20.
The exhibition moves beyond the traditional iconography of Saint Francis to explore his way of looking at the world and the ethical value of his thought. His vision, expressed in the Canticle of the Creatures, becomes a starting point for reinterpreting Italian art from the post-World War II period to the present day. Artworks from the MAXXI Collection—including an Achrome-sewn canvas in squares by Piero Manzoni—dialogue with pieces that share similar themes and artistic languages. Other works have been created specifically for the occasion, interpreting the Franciscan perspective and merging symbols, figures, and nature, so that Saint Francis’s vision becomes a lens through which to re-read Italian art from the second half of the twentieth century to today.
