Una grande roccia, sospesa in tensione, orientata verso un rettangolo di blu oltremare sulla parete. Sembra ferma, ma trattiene una forza: pesa sulla terra e, nello stesso tempo, indica una direzione.
È Verso oltremare di Giovanni Anselmo, l’opera che apre Ripensando il Romanticismo nell’arte contemporanea.
Essenziale, concentra in sé una tensione profondamente romantica: quella tra limite e infinito, tra la presenza e il desiderio, tra ciò che appartiene alla materia e ciò che spinge oltre.
La pietra è peso, realtà, corpo. Il blu oltremare è soglia, distanza, apertura. Richiama il lapislazzuli arrivato da lontano, e porta nell’opera l’idea stessa di un altrove: oltre il mare, oltre la parete, oltre il punto in cui siamo.
Da qui comincia la mostra: da una roccia che guarda l’infinito.

A large rock, held in tension, directed towards a rectangle of ultramarine blue on the wall. It seems still, yet it holds a force: it weighs on the earth and, at the same time, points in a direction.
This is Verso oltremare by Giovanni Anselmo, the work that opens Rethinking Romanticism in Contemporary Art.
Essential in its form, it contains a deeply Romantic tension: between limit and infinity, presence and desire, matter and the impulse to move beyond.
The stone is weight, reality, body. Ultramarine blue is threshold, distance, openness. It recalls lapis lazuli coming from afar, and brings into the work the very idea of elsewhere: beyond the sea, beyond the wall, beyond the place where we stand.
This is where the exhibition begins: with a rock looking towards infinity.
