ABC-ARTE supports artists who experiment with different languages and formats, with a predilection for gestural abstraction. Studies twentieth-century postwar international masters, and explores figures from the Neoavangardist movement whose quality invites a fresh critical reading. Each project implemented (or supported in public institutions and museums) is accompanied by a publication in our book series, edited by ABC-ARTE in collaboration with the artists themselves, international critics and curators. Thanks to its position in Genoa's historical center, facing the arches of the Oriental Market, our gallery opens to the city its own vocation as a reference in the Italian contemporary art scene, creating specific actions to connect with a wider and less conventional audience.

At , ABC-ARTE presents a focused dialogue between Antonio Kuschnir, Jorrit Tornquist, and Bertozzi & Casoni, bringing together distinct generations and approaches to painting, colour, image, and materiality.

Now open to the public.

The presentation explores different ways of constructing and questioning the visible: from the psychological and narrative tension of Kuschnir’s painting, to Tornquist’s rigorous investigation of colour and perception, and the extraordinary material illusion of Bertozzi & Casoni’s ceramic practice.

Rather than proposing a single visual language, the booth unfolds through affinities and contrasts, reflecting on how perception is shaped, destabilised, and continuously renegotiated between image, surface, and reality.

JORRIT TORNQUIST | THE IDEA OF COLOUR
Installation views from Jorrit Tornquist’s solo exhibition currently on view at ABC-ARTE ONE OF, Milan.

Curated by Flaminio Gualdoni and developed in collaboration with Archivio Jorrit Tornquist, the exhibition traces more than six decades of the artist’s radical investigation into colour as a physical, perceptual and spatial experience.

Moving between painting, architecture, science and colour theory, Tornquist transforms colour from pictorial element into an active dimension of space.

Bertozzi & Casoni
Pausa, 2023

A suspended moment, preserved in ceramic.

In Pausa, Bertozzi & Casoni turn the remains of an everyday scene into an image of extraordinary permanence. Disposable cutlery, plates, watermelon and traces of consumption are rendered with obsessive precision in polychrome ceramic, collapsing the distance between attraction and repulsion, abundance and waste, reality and illusion.

The work is currently on view in “What’s the most incredible thing you have done?”, curated by Alberto Mattia Martini, at ABC-ARTE, Genoa.

On view through 4 October 2026.

OPENING TODAY — MILAN

ABC-ARTE ONE OF is pleased to present Jorrit Tornquist — The Idea of Colour, curated by Flaminio Gualdoni and developed in collaboration with Archivio Jorrit Tornquist.

Opening today in Milan, the exhibition brings together works spanning from the 1960s to recent years, tracing more than six decades of Tornquist’s radical and remarkably consistent investigation into colour.

For Tornquist, colour is not an attribute of form, but a physical and perceptual reality — a way of questioning how we see, experience and inhabit space. His practice moves between art, architecture, science and colour theory, transforming vision itself into an active experience.

At the heart of the exhibition is XY diagonal, 2013, developed from a project conceived in 1975: an installation in which colour leaves the pictorial surface and becomes a space to be entered and experienced.

Opening September 16, 2026 — ABC-ARTE ONE OF, Milan

We are pleased to present Jorrit Tornquist — L’idea del colore, curated by Flaminio Gualdoni and developed in collaboration with the Jorrit Tornquist Archive.

Jorrit Tornquist (Graz, 1938 – Cisano Bergamasco, 2023) was one of the most significant artists and theorists of colour of his generation. From 1959 onwards, he devoted his research to colour, light and perception, developing a practice in which rigorous theoretical investigation and sensory experience constantly intersect.

After moving to Italy in 1964, Tornquist built an intense international career, exhibiting across Europe, the United States and Japan. In 1986, he was invited to the 42nd Venice Biennale, while his work was presented in major museums and institutions including the Neue Galerie Graz, the Museum moderner Kunst in Vienna and the Ludwig Museum in Budapest.

In this photograph, the artist is portrayed through a detail of XY diagonal, 2013, one of the works featured in the exhibition.
