Known for his eclectic career and passion for images, Meritte infuses this piece with humor and cultural commentary. In this series installment, Botticelli’s is depicted taking a mirror , with her phone pointed directly at the viewer. The cheeky title, Venus di Meritte suggests a playful veneration of the himself, adding a layer of modern irony to the scene. By blending the of Venus with a twist, Meritte invites viewers to reflect on how reshapes our engagement with and beauty.

Firmly rooted in the art scene, Meritte’s work echoes the rebellious spirit of and , which often use humor and satire to critique modern society. “Cherub Chatroom” from his series humorously brings into the age, where figures engage in what seems like a spirited online chat session. Known for his background in nightlife and artistic exploration, Meritte infuses this piece with his signature blend of irreverence and cultural commentary.

In “Cherub Chatroom,” Raphael’s cherubs, traditionally depicted in art as celestial messengers, are now depicted gossiping and exchanging messages on smartphones, each scene a nod to the drama and dynamics of modern-day online interactions. Meritte cleverly maintains Raphael’s style while adding a twist, inviting viewers to reconsider these timeless figures in a lighthearted and accessible context. This not only highlights Meritte’s knack for blending with themes but also underscores the enduring relevance of art in reflecting societal changes and advancements.

Within the context of contemporary art, influenced by the disruptive nature of and , Meritte’s work stands as a playful yet thought-provoking example of cultural remixing. Much like street artists reclaim public spaces, Meritte playfully appropriates art history to spark about how shapes human connections today. “Cherub Chatroom” challenges viewers to reflect on the intersection of art, technology, and human interaction, bridging the gap between past and present with a touch of whimsy and wit. Through his unique lens, Meritte invites us to laugh, ponder, and perhaps see these cherubs not just as heavenly beings, but as playful navigating the digital realm of contemporary existence. Title

After Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine, Western governments quickly locked down €260bn-worth of Russian assets. Until recently, none of the proposals about what to do with them has found widespread favour. But one is gaining traction https://econ.st/3Uq4kew

Artwork Descriptions:
DJ NAPOLEONE

As part of his exhibition Provocateur, in this striking work “DJ NAPOLEONE” Bruce Meritte once again uses his sharp eye and incisive sense of humor to distill an anachronistic image to its purest form. Meritte presents Napoléon not only as an iconic Emperor DJ who approaches the turntable with the glint of tactical brilliance and ambition behind his eyes, but at the same time captures Napoleon's nature as an icon and stock character by posing an actual doll to underline its absurdity.

As he straddles the line between gravitas and play in this glossy yet formal image, Meritte's "DJ NAPOLEONE" hints at pop art and neoclassical portraiture yet turns the dial up to create this electrifying new media work. Toying with the high and the low, the grand and the pathetic, the Austerlitz and the Waterloo, &c., perhaps Meritte is also making a bit of a personal, comical nod to his own savvy and illustrious reputation in the Parisian nightlife.

STOP THE COKE!

Bruce Meritte creates an explosive, visual double-entendre with "Stop the Coke," combining likely the most iconic and recognizable script in advertising behind a wild-eyed doll of Al Pacino as Tony Montana in Scarface. The figure's face is covered in co***ne, which Meritte himself painstakingly painted around his mouth. As part of the exhibition Provocateur, in this bold work we witness a buffet of overconsumption, the meta overload, the broken dreams in the desperate eyes and hands of Pacino, hungering for wealth and power at all costs.

Both compelling and nightmarish, this image evokes ambition turned to addiction and interrogates the bombastic nature of the American dream – Coca Cola, Mc Donald's, Facebook, Google – what does it all mean?!

POUTINE!

The insistence to question the purity of society is an artistic mandate of Bruce Meritte. The artist operates on principle as the ultimate provocateur. Question everything, know thyself; this mandate belongs to the artist Bruce Meritte.

The Monkeys of Wisdom Triptych - HEAR NO EVIL, SPEAK NO EVIL, SEE NO EVIL

The Monkeys are always watching, listening, talking... The artwork of Bruce Meritte functions as a subtle reminder to enjoy your fu***ng life. Wild nature lives in the world, in coexistence with humanity; life is meant to be a great adventure into the wild blue wonder. The hills have ears, they speak and they listen...what of the animals? What has become of the planet of the apes? Artist Bruce Meritte has dared to return to the question raised so unforgettably by the cult classic films. The artist answers the call of the wild with the wisdom of monkeys..

SPACE JAM

The Stairway to Heaven for artist Bruce Meritte sounds like daft punks playing a space jam. Enough said. The revoutionary hologram print changes features on the faces of the musicians to reveal their alien nature. Space Jam is a work which must be seen to be believed; priceless.
