The Ca' Vendramin Pumping Station, now the Regional Land Reclamation Museum.
Until the late 19th century, this area was a swamp of mud and stagnant water, uncultivable and infested with malaria. In 1900, the Reclamation Consortium obtained authorization to drain it.
The plant is the core of a larger system including two smaller pumping stations. Designed to overcome a water level difference of 1.128 m in normal conditions and 1.705 m in storm conditions, it allowed the complete reclamation of the Island of Ar**no, completed in 1920.

In 1897 the Kabelwerk Oberspree, a cable factory commissioned by AEG-founder Emil Rathenau, came into operation. In the huge complex, which in a few decades would have exceeded 18 hectares in size and employed over 9,000 workers, high voltage cables, oil cables, vacuum tubes, electrical outlets and many other things were produced.

One of my biggest regrets as an industrial photographer is to have skipped the heydays of the industrialization, in all its glory and infamy. Don't misunderstand me, I'm happy to live in this time, but my favorite subject is always filtered by the history passed in the meantime, whether it was reused, neglected or even torn down for good.
Discovering the grandiose world of Rockstar Games Red Dead Redemption 2, set at the dawn of the last century, allowed me to walk through that stunning piece of human history, when a new world was phasing out an old one thanks to the ingenuity and sacrifice of millions.
Since the game protagonist is equipped with a camera, could I miss such an occasion?

In 1910, SWA, Augsburg's largest cotton company, built its fourth and final expansion. The building, known as Glaspalast (Glass Palace), was designed by the well-known industrial architect Philipp Jakob Manz to house the spinning department.
In 1988 production stopped and in 1999 the building was bought by entrepreneur Ignaz Walter who wanted to transform it into a cultural centre. Today it houses his art collection (Kunstmuseum Walter) and the civic museum of contemporary art (H2 – Zentrum für Gegenwartskunst).

🇮🇹 🇬🇧

On July 29th, 1929, a defective lamp caused a powerful firedamp explosion in the Schwester coal pit near Waldenburg, today's Wałbrzych. 23 miners immediately lost their lives, 10 others died shortly afterwards from burns reported. The shaft, renamed "Siostrzane" after the territory was ceded to Poland, was closed in 1960. The characteristic Malakoff-style extraction tower still survives in a state of decay.

Sulzer is the company that has most marked the identity and form of Winterthur, one of the European capitals of heavy industry. Founded in 1834, it made its way through the golden years of the Industrial Revolution by exporting all over the world, among others, marine engines, pumps, chemical plants.
Today the company, although still in business, is greatly reduced and the immense industrial area south of the station where it was born and raised has been the subject of one of the best-known urban regeneration projects. The construction that retains the greatest charm, however, remains the neighborhood car park, building no. 53 of 1891 where the foundry was located.

The large industrial building, the heart of Milan's Tortona district and now home to the MUDEC museum, the Base cultural center, and the Teatro La Scala Stage Workshop, developed over the course of the 20th century, witnessing the passage of various companies and manufacturing vocations.
The first to come here was Züst, an automobile manufacturer founded on Lake Maggiore, which moved its automobile assembly plant here in 1905, along with its testing and R&D departments. Three years later, the transition to the electromechanical industry occurred: a joint venture between AEG and Thomson-Houston took over the plant to produce transformers.
During World War I, given the unwelcome presence of the German company AEG, the plant was acquired by Galileo Ferraris, which built the first part of the current building. After three years under Franco Tosi, the factory passed to Compagnia Generale di Elettricità (the Italian subsidiary of General Electric), which significantly expanded the portfolio to include equipment for electric power plant and rail electrification, and consequently expanded the industrial area to its current size.
Ansaldo, whose name the area is known by today, took over the plant during its final phase in 1966. In the 1980s, when the plant closed, approximately a thousand employees still worked there.
