The City Palace built by Rana Udai Singh II has been added to and extended by the successive generations of Maharanas, notably by Rana Karan Singh, and Rana Sangram Singh II. Maharana Sajjan Singh and Maharana Fateh Singh further expanded the palace in the 19th century. The building is a unique depiction of the architectural and artistic evolution of Mewar through centuries. More than four centuri

es ago, in A.D. 1559, Rana Udai Singh II the father of Rana Pratap, laid the Foundation of the City Palace after the birth of his grandson Amar Singh I and on the advice of a Hermit Goswami Prem Giriji Maharaj, who had a small hut on this hill. The enormous complex of the old palace standing on a low ridge called Rana Magri (Rana’s Hill) overlooking lake Pichola on the west is a tribute to the constructive genius and architectural taste of the Maharana's of Mewar, ranging from Rana Udai Singh II to the present 76th Custodian of House of Mewar, Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar. It has been so planned and integrated with the original building that the entire structure assumes a shape of one edifice from the exterior, with canopies, towers, domes, cupolas, bastions, beautifully carved balconies and ornamental turrets. The City Palace has always been a self-sufficient developing centre within itself and shall continue to grow into an ideal prototype of a living palace complex.

अंतरराष्ट्रीय संग्रहालय दिवस 2026 के अवसर पर, अंतरराष्ट्रीय संग्रहालय परिषद (ICOM) की थीम “एक विभाजित दुनिया को एकजुट करने वाले संग्रहालय” के अंतर्गत सिटी पैलेस संग्रहालय, उदयपुर द्वारा “आर्ट इन डायलॉग: यूनाइटिंग द वॉयसेस” का आयोजन किया गया। यह तीन दिवसीय कला कार्यशाला विभिन्न क्षेत्रों से आए विविध कला माध्यमों के कलाकारों को एक साथ लाने का एक प्रयास था, जहाँ उन्होंने कला के माध्यम से सृजन, संवाद और सार्थक विचार-विमर्श किया। यह पहल इस विचार को प्रतिबिंबित करती है कि रचनात्मकता विश्व में एकता और शांति स्थापित करने की शक्ति रखती है।

अंतरराष्ट्रीय संग्रहालय दिवस 2026 समारोह की शुरुआत के अवसर पर, 16 मई 2026 को सिटी पैलेस संग्रहालय, उदयपुर में शिक्षांतर एनजीओ की बालिकाओं के लिए एक टेक्सटाइल पेंटिंग कार्यशाला आयोजित की गई। इस कार्यशाला का संचालन सुश्री जया सोलंकी एवं सुश्री दिव्या बांगड़ द्वारा किया गया।

सिटी पैलेस की भव्य स्थापत्य कला एवं अभिव्यक्तियों से प्रेरित होकर प्रतिभागियों ने फैब्रिक बैग्स पर अपनी रचनात्मक कल्पनाओं को उकेरा और उन्हें यादगार कलाकृतियों में परिवर्तित किया।

द एलिफेंट: पावर ऑफ आर्ट द्वारा सिटी पैलेस संग्रहालय, उदयपुर के सहयोग से एक कला रेजिडेंसी, कार्यशाला और प्रदर्शनी का आयोजन किया गया।

इस आयोजन में देशभर से 14 अतिथि कलाकारों और 100 से अधिक कलाकारों ने भाग लिया, जिससे रचनात्मक संवाद और कलात्मक आदान-प्रदान के लिए एक सशक्त मंच तैयार हुआ।

कलाकृतियों का प्रदर्शन सभा शिरोमणि का दरीखाना में किया गया, तथा इस आयोजन का उद्घाटन प्रख्यात भारतीय कलाकार श्री विजय बिस्वाल जी द्वारा किया गया।

An art residency, workshop, and exhibition was organized by The Elephant: Power of Art in association with The City Palace Museum, Udaipur.

The event brought together 14 guest artists and 100+ artists from across India, creating a space for artistic exchange.

The artworks were showcased at Sabha Shiromani ka Darikhana and the event was inaugurated by renowned Indian artist Shri. Bijay Biswaal ji.
