World Wetlands Day 2026

Today we celebrate the many lives that are not grounded, but watered— the vibrant ecosystems and communities that flourish in wetlands.

This year, we pledge to look deeper into these lives, recognizing that water–human coexistence is not only under threat, but also profoundly beautiful. We value indigenous knowledge systems and honor community efforts that sustain wetlands in our times, in every way possible.

Aligned with 0Wetlands International’s theme for 2026 — “Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage”— we reaffirm that wetlands are living heritage. They hold stories, wisdom, and resilience that connect generations.

Let’s celebrate, protect, and carry forward this shared legacy.

In Loving Memory of Rajoo Barot

We at Living Waters Museum are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Rajoo Barot — a dear friend, collaborator, and creative force. Rajoo worked with us in 2018 on a poignant film about Surendra Bhai Patel, founder of the Vishalla Museum of Utensils, as part of our exhibition exploring the interconnections of water, food, and culture. Watch the film here- https://youtu.be/vp86EP3peCE?si=91jMgH6zl-R7CXbC

A living legend in every sense, Rajoo was a towering presence in the world of theatre and music — a gifted artist, soulful singer, and generous mentor to generations of young performers, especially through the Ahmedabad Theatre group which he co-founded. His voice, vision, and warmth touched countless lives.

We remember him not only for his artistry, but for the spirit of collaboration and care he brought into every frame, every note, every conversation. His legacy will continue to inspire us.

Our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the many communities he nurtured.

HAVE YOU APPLIED YET? Deadline: September 21st!

The Deccan Water Chapter is a new exhibition by the Living Waters Museum focusing on the Deccan region in India.

Are you an artist or cultural practitioner working at the intersection of water, community, and art? We invite you to join us in designing this exhibition with your creative practice through a fellowship!

The Deccan Water Chapter will be a multimedia, multidisciplinary exhibition designed by creative practices through a three-month fellowship program. This program will explore the socio-cultural history, present dynamics, and future possibilities of water in the Deccan Plateau through an inclusive lens. Encouraging collaboration and co-learning with indigenous communities, the exhibition aims to inspire new ways of understanding water, science, and society.

Eligible applicants are encouraged to apply. Selected Fellows will develop one story over 8-10 weeks and will be awarded a stipend (see Call for Fellowships), mentorship from experts, access to a dynamic network, and opportunities for further collaboration.

Thrilled to share that the Living Waters Museum has been featured in the newly launched India Green Guide by the Asia-Europe Foundation and Contact Base! This beautifully curated publication showcases pioneering cultural initiatives across India that are creatively responding to environmental challenges through art, storytelling, and community engagement.
We’re honoured to be listed alongside so many inspiring organisations—many of whom we’ve had the joy of collaborating with over the years. The guide is a testament to the power of culture in shaping a sustainable future.

A heartfelt thank you to Banglanatak.com and The Contact Base team for weaving this tapestry of hope, creativity, and climate action.
