The gallery will reopen on Friday from 5pm with a photography exhibition by Lorraine Thiria who spent two months this year at the Alliance Française artist residency!
Lorraine THIRIA is a French visual artist from Paris who explores matter and the memories it contains. Mainly mineral and mural, matter—both as a subject and as a printing
medium—intrigues and attracts the artist, who seeks to bring it to life through her gaze and to
reveal the beauty of its imperfections.
“Between Whispers and Walls” is a photography exhibition following her two months artist residency at Alliance Française of Pondicherry. This series aims at capturing both the city's language and its residual memories by portraying the city walls, which convey a message about the passing of time and bear witness to past and present lives.
The walls, the facades, the layers of stone that form them in strata, and the vegetation that infiltrates and erodes them are the imprints, the traces of the city’s successive legacies and symbols of its heritage. For the artist, they constitute “landscapes”—that is, living tableaux of
nature and time.
