This MOG Sunday brings an intimate conversation with graphic artist and printmaker Mrinalini Sen, in dialogue with MOG Sundays curator, Nilankur Das, as she reflects on her artistic journey and evolving practice. The session will trace how she discovered relief printmaking and what continues to draw her to this traditional medium in a contemporary context.

The discussion will explore the relevance of printmaking in today’s digital age, examining why this centuries-old technique continues to resonate with both artists and audiences. It will also address the challenges inherent to the process—from technical demands to questions of accessibility and sustainability—while highlighting the rewards of working in a deeply tactile, hand-crafted form.

As the conversation unfolds, Mrinalini will reflect on printmaking as a composite practice, situated at the intersection of drawing, sculpture, and process. The session will conclude with a glimpse into her upcoming projects and collaborations.

Today’s MOG Sunday centred around ‘Fish Curry and Rice’, the landmark publication edited by Claude Alvares that has, for over three decades, documented Goa’s ecological, cultural, and social realities with urgency and care. First published in 1992 and now in its fifth edition, the book has evolved alongside Goa itself, continuing to respond to the changing concerns of the region.

The session opened with reflections by Bongisio, who spoke about ‘Fish Curry and Rice’ not merely as food, but as a metaphor for an entire Goan way of life. Connecting ideas of land, music, community, and belonging, he reflected on the importance of remembering and learning from the landscapes that shape us. His session concluded with a powerful rap performance exploring themes of identity, ecology, and collective responsibility.

Claude Alvares reflected on the journey of the book through its many editions and how emerging ecological and political concerns have reshaped its contents over time. Speaking about issues such as the Mhadei, changing coastlines, forests, flora and fauna, he emphasised the importance of understanding forests as vital infrastructure that sustains life and ecological balance.

Artist Svabhu Kohli spoke about land, memory, and loss, highlighting how art can make environmental conversations more accessible and emotionally resonant. Referring tovarious Goan artists work that has been presented in the book, he reflected on how artistic practices help us imagine and relate to in times of crisis.

The session concluded with a moving monologue by Prashanti Talpankar, who reflected on what it means to “be green” today. Beginning with memories of Goa’s past landscapes and moving into present realities of ecological degradation, she reminded audiences that environmental crises unfold within our homes and communities. Ending with the call “Goenkarano Zaya Zage,” she urged everyone to come together to protect Goa’s future.

Join us at MOG Sundays as we continue to engage with the crucial conversations shaping our times.

This MOG Sunday gathers around a book that has outlived trends, governments, and forgetting—a book that has watched Goa change, and refused to look away. Fish Curry and Rice, edited by Claude Alvares, is Goa speaking for itself. First published in 1992 and now in its fifth edition, it carries over three decades of memory, ecology, and resistance within its pages.

This session unfolds in five movements. Claude Alvares opens by tracing the life of the book and why it continues to remain urgent today. Svabhu Kohli reflects on land, loss, and the fragile nature of belonging. Prashanti Talpankar presents a monologue that questions what it means to stay “green.” Bongisio brings music that connects soil with inheritance.

The session concludes with an open conversation, followed by book viewing and signing—inviting audiences to gather, reflect, and engage.
