KNMA Art Battle | Season 6 🎨

The Kiran Nadar Museum of Art returns with the 6th edition of its flagship Art Battle, now expanding into a national platform for young artists across India.

KNMA Art Battle creates a space for students to engage with art beyond the classroom, encouraging independent thinking, experimentation, and confidence through making.

The competition unfolds as an on-the-spot painting challenge, where participants respond to a theme revealed at the venue. This format invites spontaneity, originality, and personal interpretation, turning each round into a live moment of creative exchange.

Beginning in Jaipur on 21 April, the city rounds will travel across the country, bringing together schools and young practitioners, before culminating in a Grand Finale at KNMA, New Delhi in December 2026.

Participants compete across three categories:
Junior (Grades 3–5)
Middle (Grades 6–8)
Senior (Grades 9–12)

Winners from each city advance to the finale, where selected artworks will be exhibited within the museum, offering a rare opportunity to be part of a national showcase.

2.KNMA Art Battle

Art Battle returns in its 6th edition, expanding into a national inter-school painting competition across 10 cities. Launching in Jaipur, this flagship KNMA initiative brings together young artists through an on-the-spot format that encourages spontaneity and original thinking. Participants compete across three categories (Grades 3–12), with city winners advancing to the Grand Finale at KNMA, New Delhi, where selected works will be showcased in the museum.

6.Tyeb Mela

A two-day celebration of Tyeb Mehta’s practice across cinema, performance and sound. The Mela opens with film screenings including Duvidha, Afternoons of Solitude and more, followed by discussions and a late-night screening of The Wolf House. Day two features a live Dhak performance by Toton Das, a dance response by Manju Sharma across the exhibition, and concludes with a panel discussion.

7.Restricted Palettes III

Explore how colour shifts through relationship and placement using the Bezold Effect. Through guided exercises, see how small changes alter contrast, balance and intensity.

Art, at the end of the day, keeps us anchored to shared histories and collective experience.

This World Art Day, we are reminded of that through 'Nalini Malani – Of Woman Born', a newly commissioned exhibition presented by KNMA and curated by Roobina Karode, for the historic La Biennale di Venezia.

Centring women’s experiences, the work draws from history to reflect on violence, memory, and the ways both continue to shape the present. Artists like Malani remind us why art still matters: for the way it brings urgent voices into view and helps us engage more deeply with the world around us.

What should you notice when you’re looking at a painting by Tyeb Mehta?
